Lingard getting hammered by his own fans.

3 games in and the wheels have fallen off already.
This is what happens when you act like a goon on social media. You needlessly put pressure on to perform.

United hammered Palace first half yesterday but they did start to rum out of ideas pretty fast. I feel this kind of result may happen more than they expect.

Looking at that front line up yesterday..

Rashford - Martial - James

It's pretty decent but its very much a mixture of potential, players who haven't yet lived up to potential and players who are not yet big game players. Which is fine when you are focusing on youth and developing a new era. But there's a huge element of risk that it doesn't develop.

Therefore you do need some good back up options to fall back on should these three go through poor streaks. One lool at their bench yesterday and it doesn't make good reading...

Mata (passed his best and square peg)
Perrerya (potential that hasn't developed)
Greenwood (17 year old who shouldn't be expected to bail his team out and quite frankly it could destroy his development)
Then the midfield options are severley limiter.

How do they expect to be challenging when they can't mix things up?

Every team will just copy Palace's blueprint now and pick them off on the counter, knowing that they don't have a lot of tools to bring on should they be finding it hard to score.

OGS may be able to set his team up well but he'll only succeed when he knows how to adapt to the flow of the game.

Lingard was 113th of midfielders (not overall, just midfielders) in the PL for chances created last season. He only produced goals or assists in December (4+2) and did nothing, no goals or assists, in any other calendar month last season.

Norwegian TV did a pre-match analysis on Lingard and the panel was in unison that he simply is not good enough for where they want to be. And then he had an absolute stinker yesterday to boot.

That he's in a Manchester United starting XI is a damning indictment of both the rest of the squad and the club as a whole.

He’s an England started too isn’t he?

He has been, but didn't start the Nations League semi v Holland when the midfield three was Rice, Delph and Barkley.

England really struggle for midfielders. Man United shouldn't have that problem with the money they have.

They clearly have a lot of pace going forward. City have that but also have a lot of precision and team cohesion. They are also usually quite clinical.

At the moment Utd just have pace.

Isn't he on some huge salary and contract ?

Fixed your post.

There’s no way he’s be anywhere near the England team if he didn’t play for united. He’s bang average.

I've said for a very long time (irl) that Lingard is tosh. It was criminal that Dele was pushed deeper to accommodate Lingard in the WC, evidenced by the fact that Kane had to drop back to try and create chances for himself.

He's just a Stephen Clemence type player who happened to sneak into Utd's team at a point where Van Gaal was giving debuts and starting spots to all their academy.

Yeah I've never really got the fuss about Lingard to be honest. It's not just that he's not good enough for Utd, I genuinely just don't think he's a good player full stop. Should be playing for someone like Stoke not Man Utd IMO. When he first seemed to come onto the scene I gave him the benefit of the doubt thinking he was the same age as Rashford and so probably still just needed time to develop, but then when you realise he's in his mid-20s it's the final nail in coffin for him as far as I'm concerned.

It speaks volumes about how poor Utd's squad is that Lingard is still one of their core players.

Shocking result against Southampton!

Their midfield does look weak...

Smallish and Sanchez both gone out in loan. If I didn’t know any better I’d think they were trying to save money.

I fear that OGS time at the wheel is running up. A draw against Soton and a loss against Palace are two very poor results

There's no chance he's still their manager next season. The only question is whether they have the balls to sack a "club legend" mid-way through the season or whether they let him finish the season before coming to some "mutual agreement" that he should step down in order to save face.

For what it's worth the Utd fans I know are already starting to get pretty sick of him so I don't think the whole fan favorite/club legend schtick has too much life left in it either and the amount of good will and benefit of the doubt he'll get is drying up rather quickly.

Apparently he's calling the players by nicknames like Rashy, Youngy and Lingy in the press conferences which pisses off some of their fans. I can see why, as it sounds more like he's talking about his mates.
