I'm surprised there wasn't more of a pile on from the media and others fans yesterday. This is just as serious as the super league.

Im not, there's a reason that Journo's have stayed clear of writing stories on Chelsea, Man City and Newcastle for the past two decades. Id like to say its because they fear a social media backlash but something tells me its way more sinister than that. These are not the types of people to fire shots at without expecting some serious repercussions to either you or your family.

They're called injunctions and superinjunctions. When the Abramovich stuff all came out over Ukraine lots of journalists were writing that they'd been barred from writing a word about him for years

Fear of SLAPP's probably

I mean no one expected City to play nice, the only rule they've ever known is money always wins and when you tell someone like them well money won't be winning anymore, they were never going to take it well.

It’s also no surprise that they don’t like the democratic nature of the premier league’s decision making. What with them being an absolute monarchy soaked in the blood of their own people and what not.

In some ways it’s worse. If City win both cases they basically own the league. They will be able to do what they want when they want and the league will have to accept their control of it.

It’s also remarkably Trumpian, City the little guy taking on the big bad ‘cartel’. If City beat the obvious corruption 115 charge plus win the ‘discrimination’ case so they can spend what they want it is effectively a coup.

Thanks for posting that link - very good article, i'm glad someone had the balls to say it how it is. And to think there were/are Spurs fans who were actually wishing we'd get taken over by 'Oil Money'.

This.

Just a year ago everyone on here were clamouring for new owners. Forgetting completely about the type of owners we could get. 777, Wolves style, Saudis, the Glazers, Clearlake capital etc....

Just so we could plough money into the first team squad. But there in lies the bigger problem and why City will probably get away with it. Money talks.

People's self interest and greed will win over ethical and moral arguments everyday of the week and twice on Sunday.

On a smaller financial scale , Sheikh Mohammed of Dubai also part of UAE is the ruler of Dubai and Royalty but this didn't stop the High Court in London awarding his ex wife half a billion pounds in a divorce settlement, did he ask the UK government to put pressure on the judges, I doubt it.
He could then have caused great harm to the horse racing industry in the UK by withdrawing all Godolphin horses and shutting down his stud farm but he hasn't

For the government to interfer are they going to try and persuade lawyers and ex judges who sit on the Premier League Independent Commission panel to come up with a false verdict, sounds like a sure fire vote loser to me unless they are going to gag all the lawyers .
When the UEFA case went to CAS did the UAE put pressure on the Swiss Government to interfer , I doubt it and although City did get off with the more serious charge at CAS they were still found guilty of obstructing the UEFA enquiry.

Almost everyone, I wasn't and am not anti Levy (quite the opposite), but I didn't want to make it into a pro Levy post and go down that rabbit hole for the millionth time.

I think the majority wanted a new owners, a good amount wanted enic to stay but levy to move aside and then some just saying stay as it is as never know who you might get.

But yeah on topic, some teams have done a lot to get in a position to comply or like us generate income to compete with the top teams who were already there. I wonder if city win (they shouldn't) if then clubs like us could counter counter sue as they have had to comply all the time and have extra output to generate more in the long run so couldn't invest as much at the time?

If City win this, then surely they will eventually be overtaken by Newcastle anyway as the Saudi's have even more money and will want to beat them?

I doubt that would be an option, even if it was what could we get from it?

But the fallout of a city win would be interesting, because I mean what's the point anymore. If you had City, Newcastle and maybe Chelsea able to spend anything then, what's the actual point.

I mean eventually they'll get it right with enough spent. Which is basically the CL spots wrapped up for the forseeable future.

What would be more likely is a split and a new league forming. If enough teams say let's start a new league (with actual rules) then it could happen, invite the lower league teams and form a new system.

It'd be tricky with Uefa, but why not? Football is made by the fans, so they'd still go to watch their team. United, Arsenal and Liverpool would need to be behind it though.

I think it's reached the stage where having more access to more money than Sheikh Mansour has become irrelevant. The fact is that whether it's City or Newcastle, money is no object and there is effectively no limit to what they could spend if the rules of the game allowed them to.

So the rules have become more important than ever.

If City win with their ludicrous case, you can kiss goodbye once and for all to any notion that top-level football is a sport.

Absolutely, but it's really a matter of degree - City, Chelsea, PSG etc have been playing by different rules for a long time now.
