To he honest they haven't been playing that well for a while. Scraped past West Ham, winning 13 games by 1 goal. They do have the ability to keep a lot of clean sheets though.

This result has been coming in my opinion. And there is sure to be a few more hiccups along the way.

Defeat to Atletico in the CL would be a lovely confidence knocker.

I'm wondering if this is the start of the regression for this team. They've been pretty damn good for 24 months now and that's usually the shelf life for teams. City had it and won the league twice with record points, we had it under Poch but somehow never got over the line for anything, Liverpool had it last season and this.

I'm just speculating of course. Maybe it is and maybe it isn't but the best teams seem to only have a certain shelflife these days
They will probably sign a few players that they can bed in over the next couple of seasons. They can't keep playing the same 11 as it's clear they are starting to tire.

This will be a challenging period for them as they need to find players who can match the leadership and drive of Milner/Henderson and the ability to be as influential as Salah and Mane or at least be a decent stand in. It's not always so easy.

Is it me or has Salah gone completely off the boil? I know he's not been as good as last season but I barely hear his name mentioned.
They also "did a Tottenham" in not signing anyone last summer. The culmination of our "5 year cycle" was reaching the CL final, theirs could be this ludicrous league season.

They won't fade so much as to lose the League. We may all wish for that from the bottom of our hearts, but, sadly, this Liverpool side believes. A principle reason they went 44 games unbeaten was because of that belief which, love him or hate him, Klopp has instilled.

Their confidence is not that shakeable. If you want evidence of that, just look to their CL semi-final last year. Just to pre-empt an analysis of the strengths of the Barca side they faced, it's not actually the point. Being 3-0 down after the first leg would have been a massive blow to their confidence. Yet at Anfield, they wiped the floor with Barca and did it with impudence - that Origi goal was downright insolent.

What they're suffering is jadedness, not a break in confidence.

I've resigned myself to them winning the League this season because it's just inevitable. They only need, at most, four wins from ten. Their remaining home games include Bournemouth, Palace, Burnley, and Villa. Sure, those teams all are capable of springing a surprise, but the likelihood is that they won't and those will be the 12 points that Liverpool need, and that's also if Cheating Murderous Regime United don't drop points.

I think they need a refresh in their front line, I said the same thing to a mate a few days ago and he laughed. But, firmino will be 29 in Oct and has been there 5 year, Salah 28 in june and been there 3 years, I would look to sell both in the summer and bring in Sancho and Werner both of whom I think will hit the ground running, adding them to Mane and Minamino who would have had a few months to bed in and I think they could avoid that 2/3 year bump

They definitely shouldnt sell Firmino yet, he makes their front line tick.

Their best option is to bring in Werner and have him push Salah and Mane and have Minamino compete too. There would be uproar if they sold Salah and Firmino. Funny if they did though. I do think Salah will be the most likely to fade out though.

Was catching up with a liverpool mate (season ticket holder) on Friday evening, and when you talk about how they can improve the team/squad and keep progressing, he was open to them selling Salah whilst he's still near peak value. Much like when they sold Coutinho to Barcelona they reinvested that cash very wisely, and whilst Salah has been a phenomenon he is also the most selfish and they could do just as well with a hungry young forward who plays more for the team. Liverpool have had a few games this season where either Mane or Salah have been missing but they still have more than enough in attack, but interestingly this little dip in form now can be attributed to missing Henderson who is the beating heart of the team and he's been massive in driving them on right till the end of every game.

Glad they didn't go unbeaten. Whilst it'd be nice for Arsenal to feel some pain - Pool fans would be utterly insufferable if they had that to brag about.

Had a little glance at RAWK. Spent about one minute in the Van Dijk thread, mainly because he’s not getting any stick at all for yesterday in the media ( Lovren taking all the blame with Trent getting some stick ) and my god...some of the stuff they write about Van Dijk. This is from more than one lone nutter too..

It’s no longer ‘best defender in Prem history’, no, it’s gone way beyond that, apparently he’s better than Nesta, Costacurta, Cannavaro and Baresi, with a few ranking him above/alongside Maldini.
To be fair, one chap was saying it’s hard to compare him with Maldini because of ‘different eras’ so it’s like trying to compare, and this is true, ‘Messi with Pele’

Fuck a duck!!! That’s up there with the best of them.

He’s obviously top quality in this current division and Liverpool side. He looks shakier in Europe, was poor yesterday and for me, still has a bit of a way to go to be ranked alongside the best the prem has seen. Currently he’s had a great 18 months/2 years, in a team that plays a system that suits him down to the ground.

Baresi and Nesta on a different level and he’s not fit to lace Maldini’s boots

In their European campaign last season, at home, he only conceded two goals against PSG and then kept clean sheets against every other side they faced including the likes of Napoli, Bayern, Porto, Barca. Undoubtedly a key element to their success.

To be honest I think he's been absolutely majestic for them pretty much right out of the gate. Ability wise he's right up there, only thing missing for me is that long term consistency/endurance and team success (which has been incredible already given the short time he's been there) that other top CBs have maintained in the past to build up that 'mythical' status they now enjoy. Same goes for the other top players in their team I suppose.

He’s been outstanding for them, undoubtedly. He’s some distance off best in the history of the prem imo. If he keeps going for the next 3/4 years at this sort of level? He’ll be up there.
Maldini? Ridiculous.

The fact he didn’t really get talked about as best in prem history until approaching the final1/3rd of his 20’s suggests he has some way to go.

Regarding their European campaign last season, he was part of great defensive displays at home...but also part of some dodgy ones away.
