What annoys me the most about Chelsea (apart from the racist fan base) is they are clearly going to benefit massively as a direct result of breaking the rules. Half of those kids wouldn't have got a sniff if it weren't for the transfer ban and now they are getting the opportunity to shine. I think I preferred it when they were all on loan at Vitesse Arnhem or another Belgium club. Now, unfortunately, Fat Frank is going to get the time to see his project succeed and blossom without the pressure a ‘big named’ manager would face.

Well I think they will still want to bring in a top quality striker and shift Giroud and Batshuayi, leaving Abraham and 1 new striker but they will know they need to bring in quality. Can they find the balance between quality and rotation? Not many teams can nowadays.

I would imagine they will be looking for some new fullbacks too, Azpilicueta isn't what he used to be. I think if Lampard gets them top 4 this season, they will have no problem backing him in the market.

Surprised Pulisic hasn't had more game time ahead of Pedro and Willian but guess he isn't showing them much in training.
They definitely need a LB, Alonso and Emerson either don't fit the system or aren't good enough, or both. RB depends a bit on Reece James' development, he hasn't had a chance to impress this season yet due to injury but was/is extremely highly rated by Lampard and Morris, but Azpilicueta as you say isn't looking as good as he used to despite only being 30.

The balance between quality and rotation is a very difficult one, just look at how we've horribly failed to find a reliable Kane backup (love Nando but the moments of quality were few and far between), but I really think that as long as Lampard is there, the academy grads that are playing now will continue to do so.

Yep they always find a way unfortunately.

But this could explain why we were so succesful last season with the CL run and falling over the line in 4th again, we didn't bring anyone in so people didn't expect us to do what we did. This summer we spent money and people started to look at us, can we build on the CL run and push further this season.....nope we haven't. We have done the complete opposite of Liverpool when they were in our position. They bought what they needed to and pushed on, we stumbled around in the market, spent money but didn't quite bring in what we had all hoped and it's not gone well.

Mind you, Chelsea having 52 loans or whatever it was returning this summer helped a lot in terms of bolstering the squad with numbers, think most clubs would like to have had the likes of Batshuayi and Zouma returning from loans to add to the squad depth when you're in the middle of a transfer ban.

They are jammy fuckers aren't they.

Plus still irks me how they manage to have so many good young players.

Nothing jammy about that though. They set out to build the best academy in England and it’s paying off. The amount of talent they have in their ranks is ridiculous.

Apart from Kane, all we ever seem to produce is neat and tidy passers.

Yeah but I thought we set out to build the best academy in England too?

Surely that's a touch ambitious for us? Personally, I'd settle for an academy that doesn't produce Darren Caskey and Mark Yeates.

Why would it be ambitious for us but not Chelsea?

I thought we were spunking loads of money into our facilities and infrastructure and have a decent catchment area?

I don’t think we have the resources for that. City and Chelsea have the deep pockets to pay off parents and put kids on massive wages. Considering the tight ship we run with the first team squad, and I doubt we pay youth players and their families anywhere near what they get at Chelsea and City.

Also slightly annoying to see that Arsenal have a very good crop of youngsters coming through.
After briefly leading the way on that front, we do appear to be lagging behind now in terms of the quality player and how they are integrated in the first team.

Man City pays for every member of its academy to be privately educated at a top independent school while Chelsea happily pays financial settlements to clubs like Leeds for poaching from their academies. We don't have the resources to compete with them.

It's roles reversed.

This is the third season in a row they are in the Europa League and have been giving those games to many academy players. Through those opportunities one or two really take it and get some Premier League minutes. And finally because they don't have the spending power to bring in top class players (or attraction) there is really nothing to lose. It's better to utilise academy players to make up the numbers than waste what money you do have to spend on players who are no better than what you already have.

That used to be us who used the Europa League games against sides like Qarabag and Sherrif as a testing ground for young players but now we've been a Champions League side for four seasons and every game has something riding on it so where do you find the time to give youngsters a chance? We're out of the one competition which we could.

Even when they fuck it up they still find success. Roman must've sacrificed the king of sheep for the amount of good fortune they've had over the years.

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard says he did not speak up enough about racism when he was an England player.

Fair enough, but perhaps you could speak out against it as Chelsea manager instead....

"I travelled with England in Europe and felt what we all felt and maybe didn't speak about it enough," Lampard said.

Yes because Europe will of been the only place you heard racism during your playing career Frank? Anywhere closer to home spring to mind?

Earlier in the season, Abraham suffered racist abuse on social media after he missed a penalty in the European Super Cup defeat by Liverpool.
On that occasion Lampard said social media firms needed to do more to tackle the issue.

Yes Frank, you are correct... but again, maybe just maybe... You could use your role within that cesspit of a club and be vocal about it now. Not just pointing the finger at "Racist Europeans" (irony) but the Racists in your club that are racially abusing your players.

- Obviously, because it's a BBC story we then have to squeeze a Liverpool reference in... Anyone care what Virgil van Dijk thinks? Also noticed they managed to get a Liverpool related story on the Rugby Union page today... Gotta love the Beeb. It's almost like BBC sports hacks know their stories will make it high up the web page if they spout some shit and stick a Liverpool link to whatever bollocks they are writing about.
