For fucks sake.

What is wrong with people? It's 2024 footballers...grow the fuck up.
It’s the same with booing national anthems of the oppo, just a total lack of class and respect.
What’s the point of them singing about the bloody French anyway, it’s not like they even played them!🤷🙄

Lo Celso is also dancing away directly behind Enzo. He's probably off this summer, but still.

Why were they signing about the French football team? What’s their beef? Seems a weird one to me.
The song is from the world cup.
I think they are blowing this out of proportion. There’s nothing racist in the song. Fofana even has a ivory coast flag in his profile.
The only part that could be considered distasteful is where it mentions Mbappe and trannies

Racism
"prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism by an individual, community, or institution against a person or people on the basis of their membership of a particular racial or ethnic group"

It's racism all the way, pretty standard stuff from here though unfortunately. With their penchant for trannies here too I'd hazard that was the least offensive thing in it.

I think the crux of the criticism is , French team is really now African immigrants - if it was stated in a matter of fact way on France as country , then ok. Because its a fact. But if same is used and targeted at the players, then it becomes racism. But the Mbappe lines are uncalled for...so you cant make a case for these players

And how stupid are the players like Enzo

i)you do casual racism as main offense
ii) you do this knowing your club teammates are of same situation
iii) And you do a live streaming of this, so entire world knows about this

let's just hope neither of ours are caught up in this.
Well ours weren't on camera at least.
Was about to ask the same. Is Romero in that video? From the clip I've seen it seems to be the whole bus singing.
Not proven if not on camera
Apparently Romero is clapping 27 seconds in
Oh.

I don't see it as being hugely racist tbf. Not watched the video, but did they call the French players blackies or something? Just pointing out that a lot of the French players have African backgrounds doesn't make it racist.

They're basically saying they're not really French because they or their parents are from Africa.

Imo it is offensive, racist, and stupid. Most of the French players were born in France, and presumably the Angola reference refers to Camavinga in part who moved to France when he was 2 years old. To suggest he or anyone in the French squad isn't legitimately French because of their background is way out of bounds.

Sure, but lets be clear here - they're not celebrating the diverse nature of the French team, they're actively mocking the idea that the players with African heritage who play for France are really in their eyes, not French.

There is clear subtext here and it's obvious that the intent was to poke at the idea that all the Black players have no place in that team. There's really no other way to see it, considering Argentina have had fuck all to with France this summer and for some reason, decided to celebrate their Copa America win some " light-hearted " racismo on their ride back to their hotel.

Are they? Bit of a stretch there. Could just as easily be said they're laughing about that to be good at football, France has to rely on immigration and exploitation of colonialism.

Again, not seen the clip nor read the translations, so happy to be corrected. But I think if they were singing that black players have no place in the French team, there would be a much bigger deal being made of this.

That is what the subtext is....

"Listen, spread the word, they play in France, but they are all from Angola, they are going to run well, they like to sleep with trans people, their mum is Nigerian, their dad is Cameroonian"

Yeah, I get all warm and fuzzy reading those lyrics - look at the clear support of French diversity. Not a soul on the French team is Nigerian - the only player with Angolan heritage is Cavaminga.

Also, to your point RE: immigration and colonialism - the chant made no mention of any North African countries or players of Arab descent, many of who have featured for France and have played significant parts in winning Trophies for France (See Zizou ) - wonder why?

Not good. But doesn't read to me as overtly racist. They're not calling them monkeys or worse.

Consider that this was sung gleefully in 2008. In England. By us.

Seems in a rather similar vein.

As someone said in the Bentancur thread, that sort of stuff just isn't considered as bad in South America. Yet. But these kinds of things should certainly be highlighted to bring about change. Eventually it will be looked on the way it is here. But in the meantime, I think we need to be aware of cultural deviances from the norm as it exists where we live. Not excuse them..just be aware that things are often judged differently depending on where we are.

And FWIW, I still think you're inferring a lot more than what is contained in the lyrics to the song.

Interesting take on what I wrote and what the lyrics state - I don't agree with it, but I've learned something today.

I am guessing you are white by the post made as casual racism is ok!
