Walcot IS better technically (if we're to assume everyone is using the term in the same way). But thats not the whole picture. Lennon is blockbuster at the minute. Bums on seats and delivivers the goods. Quentin Tarrantino... Walcot might very well be Orson Wells in comparison but who the fuck would chose to watch Citizen Kane over Pulp fiction? some gooners might but they would do it despite themselves and pretend till thier dying day it was fun... i daresay when asked what they thought of pulp fiction they would reply "i didn't not see it"

Lennon/becks/milner/joe cole should and will be Capellos wide options for the WC. Walcott will go becasue he could cover CF and wing.

I would - I fell asleep during the recent rescreening of Pulp Fiction. Citizen Kane is widely thought of as being the greatest Hollywood film of all time. Interestingly, neither Pulp Fiction nor Citizen Kane won the Oscar for best picture. In fact they both one a single Oscar for best screenplay.

I don't give a monkeys what those intelligent well rounded gentlemen from down south think about our Lenny. As long as he does the business tomorrow, and helps keep our run going.

Walcott is a good player and should be a very good player, but he isn't a winger but a striker in the Henry mould. His only downfall in this is he doesn't have the same physicality Henry had and is a smaller build. Only time will tell.

A Liverpool fan I know thinks Evra is due a good game against Lennon. And Lennon is a nobody, apparently. We are muck, because our wins have been against nobodies, apart from Liverpool.....Give me strength!!

That thread might've been better if it hadn't turned into a hypothetical argument.

"But a ball played over the top of Evra to run onto, etc..."
"But that wouldn't happen, we'd have that space covered"
"But if yada yada yada..."
"But we'd do this and that and stuff..."

If my aunt had balls she'd be my uncle and, if i had wheels, i'd be a truck.

No-one can predict which situations will arise in a game, it's easier to just argue that we believe Evra will be left pissed off and exhausted from chasing Lennons dust all day and our team are savvy enough to not play it into an area already occupied by the oppo. It's more a common sense

They believe that Evra can make a turn and keep pace with Lennon, which makes him some kind of freaky superhuman and, if he was that quick, then he'd be a mega-star for both club and country. Which he isn't. Even the guy arguing it called him a spastic.

Anyways, we'll see how it goes - we all thought we had Young tied up last year with plenty of RB talent, Harry fields Zoko and he's ripped apart over and over again. 35 minutes on the clock, Harry does what needs to be done and replaces Didi with Charlie and that's the last we hear of Young, as we stroll on for a nice 3 points.

It'll be interesting to see how Fergie the Red Nosed Glaswegian decides to deal with our flanks - at least he doesn't have any destroyers to throw down the right side, i would've expected the orders are to clatter the crap out of a demoralised Krancjar but with their similarly lightweight flank options, i predict it'll be more speed than thuggery - never a bad thing

Am I the only one who thinks Walnut is an overrated PoS who, if it wasn't for a hat-trick against ten men, wouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath as Lennon?

Well, i think his hype as a young teenager carried him a long way through a very dead patch, similar to Lennons, without attracting too much criticism. The unwavering support of Wenger also kept him propped up in the "gonna be a superstar" stakes, but i do think he has a lot of talent.

One of them mentions his versatility as something that makes him better than Lennon - i disagree, i think his inability to nail down a particular spot has left him short of the mark overall. If he'd said, definitely, that he was a winger, or a striker, and stuck at that position, working on his game, his receiving and his passing, then he'd have rounded out much more by now. As it is, his finishing is beyond argument, as is his movement, he just needs to focus otherwise he'll be just another promising talent who never reaches what he's apparently capable of.

Exactly .

Having seen us struggle without him against Birmingham and Croatia fall apart without him I am not optimistic about tommorow .

Personally I thought Lennon caused them a few problems on Wednesday but was some way off his best .

This is the thing and to me the only reason people suggest Walcott is better than LEnnon so frequently.

Walcott is no doubt an excellent talent and prospect, a classy player.

Right now though Lennon is further down his development and the better player.

Walcott's hattrick against Croatia is all people remember (and the run against liverpool in the CL which lead to a winning goal which turned out not to be the winner)

Rocket Ronny scored a fantastic second half hatrick against Southampton, if you judged him purely by that game he would have been one of the worlds greats

Ha yeah spot on. What game, what a performance

Lennon vs Evra will be our main attack tomorrow. It has to be. Evra simply can't play against him.

Modric is a massive loss, but that's why we have players such as Gio, Bentley, and Kranjcar. They can come in and fill that gap. Ok, they're not the same class but they can certainly do a job.

If Lennon embarasses them tomorrow I can really see them sniffing around him in Jan.

I do think thought that Lennon loves Spurs. He signed a new contract for us when he Liverpool were heavily in for him.
As 99.9% of all footballers he loves money

Sorry to be the one that tells you, but that's how it is.

I was listening to yesterday's Guardian Podcast and one of the journalists on there who just so happened to be a gooner was saying Walcott had to start over Lennon at the WC because of his 'reputation' and that would scare full backs as well as having blistering pace. Another journalist on there said well isn't that what Lennon gives as well?? Also said if you want someone with a reputation play Beckham there!

I like the way the tw!t flattered Arsenal by likening them to Spain. Yes, because the arguably fourth best team in England are just like the best international team in the world and win only the most prestigious of silverware.

I'm listening to the podcast right now... is he now going on to say that Arsenal are the best team in the league?!?! Sack this tosser now!

He did in fact go on to say that Woolwich would win the league this season and the only reason they didn't 2 years ago was because of the shock the whole squad felt when Eduardo got injured, so nice to see as a professional national hack that he doesn't have any blind bias.

Where is this 'Walnutt is better technically' thing come from.

If it means that he has better technique, then that is balls to the extreme. Lennon (and he's done this on more than one occasion, but the most memorable one is the assist for Keane in the 5-1 v Scum) hits perfectly weighted chipped through passes with the outside of his right boot, controls extremely high balls brilliantly and manages to put it in front of himself to run onto every single time, and he is able to dribble even when his pace is not an option i.e. in tight spaces and situations because of his close control.

To my mind technique in a footballer describes the ability to manipulate the football with ones foot, be it as a dribbler, a passer or a shooter. Walnutt probably has better technique in his shot, but overall I'd say Lennon wins the technique battle hands down.

If they mean that Walnutt is technically better in the sense that I might say 'I own a British passport, so even though I have no British heritage, I am technically British' then that is just plain wrong.

As others have said, I honestly believe that Walcott would be best served trying to develop into a Defoe type striker, because on the wing he just doesn't have the imagination or skill of Lennon.
