Not sure if this is the correct section but considering we play them in UCL last 16 it could be helpful. ???

They thrive in transition when their pacy attackers have space to counter into. Their defenders, particularly the CBs (especially Upemecano), are all capable of big errors on the ball trying to do too much...but love being on the ball. We will look to not concede, play deep, and counterattack with a quick front 3 in the first leg (IMO).

Against Liverpool we seemed to frequently create chances on giveaways when Joe Gomez was forced to be on the ball, which he was terrible at. Wouldn't be surprised if we do something similar.

They have some great players. Laimer is an animal in the middle of the pitch.

We'll just do the normal, play like crap, but defend stoutly, lulling them in to a false sense of security. This will lead to the RB team progressing up the field with a mixture of frustration and confidence, leaving massive spaces behind the back line, who should be near the half way line by this point. BOOM the clock stikes 65, we suddenly start to play, scoring clinically with our first, second, and forth shot on target. The match will end, xg will state we should have lost by 7 goals, and fans will be polarised, some saying master class, others saying Spurs have got the devils own luck. I'll be happy

Leipzig tend to play 4222, therefore having a substantial presence in the centre of the park is essential. Ideally we need to play 433 which means leaving Alli out.

Lo Celso Winks Ndombele
or
Lo Celso Ndombele Fernandes

with a front 3 of:

Bergwijn Moura Son

I’d personally play Alli as a make shift striker as he thrives when he’s either facing the opposition or needs to be instinctive. With his back to the goal he struggles this would leave us outnumbered 4 v 2 in midfield.

I’m probably being very optimistic here but I think Mourinho will do a tactical masterclass on them.
I think it will be a similar tie to the one we had with juventus 2 years ago, where we dominated and looked the better side for the majority of the tie but lost over 2 legs, in our favour this time ?
They look very good going forward but leave spaces at the back. We are all wrong for them imo. We will defend deep and kill them on the counter

The problem is we can't really defend.

We are getting there. Mourinho is plugging the defensive holes. I don’t expect us to play fluidly but I am confident. Things have to turn in our favour like form - we’ve playing like muppets long enough.

I'm expecting them to be just like Ajax last year. Young, attacking and a bit naive.

Llorente played a big role last season against Ajax. Everyone was raving about De Ligt but when Fernando came on, he was like a rabbit caught in the headlights at times. Llorente had him unsettled.
Shame we can’t call upon such experience this time but hopefully we have enough to progress

Really looking forward to it. Would be great to knock this lot out given their history and also with them employing Mitchell etc

In reality, it looked like they were playing 4-4-4-4 and had 16 players on the pitch. Never seen us so bad since Bayern !!

The glimmer of hope for me was despite Leipzig being fantastic they left gaping holes at the back which Moura nearly exposed on a couple of occasions. However, we were some negative and tactically inept that we left them pretty much sit half in our half and pick a pass under no pressure. If we get at them then we’ve enough quality to punish them but it comes down to whether we a) play a balanced side and b) we set up to contain/counter or attack and not c) sit back, no pressure and no attacking intent.

The thing is against Bayern we actually werent that bad. Created plenty of chances but they scored all theirs and we didnt score the chances we created - not luck but we werent awful and we showed ambition to create

Against RBL we were damn awful no two ways about it.

And that’s why I still have, faint though it may be, hopes of going through, if we can somehow, raise our game in the return leg.

I think we have the players to do it but its not about formations, it is about approach. May as well go for it. We need to score one more goal on the night than they do so no point in trying to defend this because even a 1-0 isnt going to be enough but 2-1 will...

Yes. And no matter if we're going to press high or base our play on counter attacks, we need to score goals. The key is to find the right line up. And in the two last games without Son, Mou has yet to pick the right players in the perfect formation with the perfect strategy. If he manages to do that now, it is a chance.

Seen last night 1-0 is a very dodgy lead. If we score first we’ve definitely got the upper hand. I actually think a crazy game like last year quarter and semi is best for us. But if we’re still in it with 30 minutes to go then anything could happen And after 1 goal anymore we score they have to score 2.
