We're in for the same season as the last one. Some ups. Lots of downs. Finish where we deserve: 5/6th

I can't see how we're gonna look better. We haven't really improved up front.
Or defensively…. 1) Need a genuine defensive mid to protect us from those overloads. 2) some basic defensive coaching to have our players actually mark the opposition - their goal was truly appalling defending

Lame ducks out wide again. No guile or pace to beat the full-back. Makes it easy for the opposition to shut down the middle of the box.
That's the thing though you cannot say we don't have pace out wide.
Johnson, Son and Werner are all pretty quick but all massively flawed.

Werner's limited effectiveness is purely on the left where defenders think he will cut inside and he goes to the line.
Son just seems unable to go past a man and about 90% of the time tonight his first thought was a backwards pass even when others were in good positions around him.

And Johnson although he's probably the only one of the three that can take on a man on his natural side is just an average player.

Defensive problems?

They had one shot, a good chance.

We had plenty. Why do we always try walking the ball into the net. When we had son and kane the number of goals outside the area was plenty.
We are too predictable when attacking, no threat from outside the area.

It's all cut backs and runners in the box. Look at our players, that's not what they're suited to.
They had the better chance to score and you’d back Vardy to have killed us off with the chance he missed. Romero had an absolute shocker defensively, the communication between Romero, Porro and Vicario must be non existent.

I'm aware of that but other teams manage games better. Other teams don't lose their heads at the first sign of trouble.

Game 1 yes but ultimately it's an extension of last season.

Apologies I'm not quite sure why this result has grated me so much - think it's just the predictability of it all. Bored already.
Its 1 game. They created 1 chance afterwards, it happens

Its football, not the end of the world.

The lack of urgency by the team really irks me.

The players are far more comfortable dominating possession, than they are putting teams to the sword and killing games off early.

The biggest plus for me was being able to bring on players to wrestle control back.
We finally showed we had some depth with Gray, Bergvall, Spence, Kulu, and Richy coming on and getting us back into it.

The biggest minus is exactly what everyone else is saying, a lack of technical ability, guile, quality etc out wide.
We need to forget about every other position and get some quality width in.

We saw this exact same performance from Spurs so many times last season. Loads of the ball but create very little with it because our wingers are so poor it’s infuriating. We literally havent strengthened anywhere in that first 11 bar maybe Solanke. Son, Werner and Johnson as your wing options is an absolute disgrace when you compare it to who we are competing with for top 4.

If nothing else, today underlines why we need to sign a top-class winger and LB cover.

Udogie, once knackered, had nobody who could replace him.

And we’re just far too mediocre on the wings. Only issue being the squad will be overloaded in that area if we sign anyone else.

Let’s hope Odobert is better than any of us are expecting.

I know everyone on here disagrees but frankly I’d bring Perisic back until January. He can cross the ball like nobody else in our squad, which would be highly useful with two big guys like Dom and Richy in the middle when searching for a goal.

It was very frustrating and we should have won but we need to consider that for the likes of Romero, VDV, Udogie and Bentancur it was really their first minutes of the season. Plus Solanke has barely been here five minutes.

If they hadn’t have hit us with that sucker punch we’d be purring about some of the football we played first half.

Keep the faith.

The last ten mins was.. a nightmare. It's possible to come on with a spring in your step and tippy tappying that ball around n inside the penalty area without it looking so random and half baked with almost every 1 touch pass looking just as likely to set up a counter attack. remember last season when son or johnson or werner would choke up the ball for no reason and we conceded. This was worse. These aren't the best players in the world. Give them a chance by deplying them a little less randomly. Never play Werner on the right again. Please, never.

I thought we were fine. Not great, not too bad. Felt it was calmer than what we saw last season. Still need that hard bastard in the middle to stem the wave when

it inevitably happens. Honestly think Gomes can be it. Thought kids looked comfortable when they came on. It was more measured than what we saw last which for me is progression. 6/10.

Our team is like a really horny guy that can't get it up.

Loads of possession, but not enough skill or guile on the wings to make it count. Too many times the final ball was hit too hard to feet, or just behind the runner etc.

Positives: Grey looked really good, as did Bergvall until Vicario acted like a twat.
Sarr was everywhere in the first half.

Negatives: Werner offered nothing, Brennan was far too timid as usual. We desperately need a RWF

60 touches in their box and only 7 shots on target.

This is the story of our forward play, it seems like we pass it about trying to carve out the perfect final ball rather than getting a quick shot away. I appreciate that the rival defence sits back and it's congested in the box, but you have to get a shot away with every possible incursion, and even if there are bodies in the box there's always the chance of a deflection.

Bergvall did not make one progressive pass or contribution after that needless tirade.

Does Vicario not think that he knows he made a mistake?
Yep really poor from Vicario, never seen him calling out Romero or Porro like that for their brain farts. Certainly not what you do to a youngster on debut when he’s been played into trouble by your senior CB.

Domination continues after conceding and we go on to win.
New signings get a game because subs were needed and how the team reacts will start to mould the starting 11.
When mistakes are made you learn from them. When it’s ball watching you learn not to shut off.
This is the season when Ange will hopefully slowly start to find the right mix. I hope he will because he’s a breath of fresh air.
Too many on here wanting this immediate falling together of a jigsaw.
Real problem today was the lack of professionalism and concentration of the players. We’ve got to learn to deal with changes in the swings of games and be able to get back to the job in hand.
If a team of players can do what we did in the first 55 mins, then they can do it for 90.
Blimey give them and Ange a break after an away draw first match of the season. Another day and we’re 3 up and end up winning 5-1 because we force a reaction from the other side and hit them with fast breaks.
This isn’t a continuation of last season, it’s the first match of a new one.
We need better wingers and a solid central midfielder and if money is not sanctioned for these jobs then Ange will have to try work it out with what he has.
I like stubbornness generally and I understand that it can bring great rewards with time.

Just a load of thoughts with my positive head on!
