I don't think this man quite has enough recognition for how good he is, and how important he is.

I have the opinion that if King was not so injury-prone, he would be the best CB England have. He would also have been one of the best CBs in the world. I think how he can still pull out performances like he did against Liverpool despite not training for weeks beforehand is just remarkable, and proves this.

He is when fit the first name on the teamsheet as far as I see it. A talented player who cares a lot about the club. Only hope he gets to lift many more trophies in his time here.

Anyone agree?

RuskyM, this topic has been posted several times over the years and the vast majority, including me, will agree with you. Sadly Ledley's days are numbered and part of the defensive problems we've had of late are because, out of loyalty to Ledley, the club hasn't replaced him with someone like Cahill or any other quality centreback around thereby giving ourselves a bit more stability in this important position. Hopefully Caulker will make the garde and replace Ledley, in a dignified manner, come next season.

Aye, I know his days are numbered. Actually saddens me a bit :(

Just like to know that in this time when football seems to be losing its essence our club captain is still seen as someone vital to the team, especially one who's been here so long.

Ledley would have been gone a long time ago if it wasn't for injuries to be honest.

The phrase, 'preaching to the converted' springs to mind.

Could've been one of the all time best CBs, luckily for us he's been injury prone or else he'd be playing for another club a long time ago.

An amazing talent that can never be replaced.

I've always likened the man to Paul McGrath, possibly in more ways than one. But what I will say is that to be likened to Paul McGrath by an Irishman, is almost the same as being placed at the right hand of God. Ledley is an extraordinary footballer, the game seems so easy to him, the same way it seemed seeing the likes of Bobby Moore or Beckenbaur playing. To say that we will never see his likes again is a sad admission.

I'd pick him over most of the PL defenders even if he was in a wheelchair.
Come to think of it, maybe that could work? He would still beat Crouch in the air.

It was a clean out to remove debris from the knee, routine for this type of injury I believe.

A few weeks ago someone (sorry can't remember who) posted a really good explanation of Ledley's knee problems (I believe the poster suffers from a similar problem) IIRC from his post Ledley's problem with training, playing etc is caused by a fluid build up around his knee, which then has to be rested to allow the swelling to subside, the longer this problem goes on the less fluid the body produces and recovery times are shorter, which probably coincides with him playing two games straight off at times.

The resting time for the knee can then lead to muscle injuries because of the lack of training, as has happened with Ledley. But because the fluid build up around the knee gradually diminishes with time it should allow him to train more frequently and therefore reduce the muscle injuries. This appears to be orne out by the fact that he was, for the first time in years able to take part in pre season sprints etc.

Apologies to the original poster if this is not completely correct, as it was a good few weeks ago.

Redknapp is speaking like he will have any real influence over the decision to retain Ledley or not. Levy has known and employed him for 10 years and will make the decsion. If Ledley is still able to play at the required level for even 10 games per year he will be given a new contract.

There is simply no way that Levy will let him go if he is ever going to play again at another club. The day Ledley no longer plays for spurs is the day he no longer plays football.

If we don't give him a new contract I will not be able to support Levy or Redknapp ever again.

I'm being serious.

Alternatively, if he hadn't have been so injury prone, he would've played a lot more games, plugged the leaky defence we've had for the last few years and we'd have qualified for the Champion's League a lot more regularly, thus matching King's own personal ambitions.
