City for me.

As others have said, everything they win has like a "T&Cs apply" asterisk next to it as far as I'm concerned so it really doesn't mean anything to me. No matter how many trophies they win it's all completely irrelevant to me. They can gloat and rub it in my face all they want and I'll just shrug and carry on with my day. It means absolutely nothing.

Liverpool on the other hand I can't stand and the media obsession with them has always been vomit-inducing so I can't even begin to imagine what it'll be like if they actually do win the league again.

Having read countless posts on the subject, would someone please explain to me this dislike/hate for Liverpool football club?? I only see jealousy !!!

Not jealousy at all. The thing I can't stand is how obsessed by them so much of the mainstream media is. It's getting better in recent years, but being born in the 80s, for most of my life growing up virtually every single pundit on the radio, TV, newspapers etc. was an ex-Liverpool player. This led to probably hundreds, if not thousands, of hours of my life I've spent listening to or reading people gushing on about them like they're the greatest club in the world even when they were crap and finishing 8th. Even when they'd finish 6th/7th they'd still be talked about as one of the favourites for the title the following season and that just gave the fans this arrogance like they've got some god-given right to win things even if they have a bang-average squad.

Everything about them always has to be some kind of bullship soppy "fairytale" narrative. They can never just "have a good game", that's far too simple for Liverpool, instead they're always "harnessing the Spirit of Shankly with YNWA washing over them from the Kop in that 'famous' Anfield atmosphere on this hallowed turf where so many legends have played before" and all that bollocks.

While the old-boys network of Liverpool pundits has slowly got less and less over the past 5 or 6 years, it's been replaces by the age of social media so now we're all exposed to this deluded arrogance all day every day anyway. Even if, like me, you don't have twitter or facebook, just watching the TV you're bombarded with tweets from their deluded fanbase on what are supposed to be proper programs

I hate Arsenal and Chelsea for obvious reasons but honestly I think Liverpool irritate me more than any other club.

The thing is, if City win it, everybody knows they bought it, including themselves. If Liverpool win it they'll think they're entitled to it, and however many years since they last won it have been the worst injustice known to humanity.

That sums it up perfectly.

Growing up in Norway in the 90s, there were only two types of supporters: Those who supported Liverpool, and those who supported Man United. Everyone else were idiots who didn't understand football, and we were constantly ridiculed for supporting another team. Liverpool and United are the two teams who are constantly in the media, they are alway considered the biggest teams, and they naturally have the largest fan bases. So when one of those two teams win anything, being a supporter of another team is almost unbearable.

So no, I'm not jealous. I just like listening to and reading pieces about my own team, Tottenham. And if Liverpool win the league, Tottenham won't get a mention until August - when they probably are, yet again, tipped as finishing outside the top 4 in the 19/20 season.

Edit: That said, I have two Liverpool-supporting colleagues who have always been animous towards Tottenham, and like us to be successful. If Liverpool end up winning the title, I will at least be glad for those two, who aren't miserable twats like the rest of them

Liverpool's target this year was to win the title. They could win the Champions league this season and their fans would still be disappointed if they don't win the league.
City's target this year was to win the Champions League. They could win the Premier League this season and their season would still be a disappointment. And City aren't even a real club, they're a cheat mode on Football Manager.

City to win the league.
Liverpool to win nothing.
Tottenham/Ajax to win the Champions league (obviously I'd prefer us to win it).

I went to a wedding a few years ago during the time that Tim Sherwood was in charge of us. The groom was a Liverpool fan and so were quite a few of the guests. One of them genuinely said that Spurs and other clubs (Everton, Southampton etc) only exist to provide players for big clubs like Liverpool. Even after being questioned whether they were taking the piss, it turns out they were deadly serious.

When Manchester City win the Premier League next month, I will think of him.

Well, tickle my balls and call me Charlie. Genuinely had no idea you could do that.

I'm only thirteen but it's still utterly humiliating.

It's an option I believe....I didn't know at the time....my apologies if everyone wished to remain anonymous....
