Before today, I can't recall the last time one of our keepers actually saved a penalty... help me out!

I remember never being confident with Paul Robinson and penalty kicks, but maybe I'm mistaken?

Don't remember seeing penalty save at WHL for a very long time!

Sheringham pen against Wet Spam as donny said above was last time we had keeper saved pen though.

I remember cerny in a pre-season game in south africa saving a pen. It was re-taken, he saved it AGAIN. Was re-taken and he got quite a strong hand on it but it still went in. Dodgy ref prob just wanted to give the home side a cheer.

Ian Walker saved one against Harchester- that programme was totally unrealistic.

Kasey Keller saved one away at Boro in an totally forgettable 1-0 defeat.

The thing with Gomes is you actually expect him to save a penalty, rather than hope like other goalkeepers.

Really? I did nt think Goalkeepers were expected to save pens no matter how good they are.

Its all about luck anyway from the Keepers point of view. Just some have more luck than others!

Not quite my point, I just feel more confident with Gomes in goal for a penalty knowing that he could save a well taken penalty because he is that good. I would never blame him for conceding one but yesterday I just knew that we had the very best Gk around to be facing up to the pen.

Loved his celebration too.

I know what you mean - my friend said "Bottom left - what do you think?" I replied, "Top right but he'll save it" Two out of three wasn't bad!

I agree with Paul that no goalkeeper is expected to save a pen, as in they ought to, but somehow with Gomes there's a belief in you that he will. That's a very nice position to be in.

Though having said that he didn't get very far in CC Final.

Exactly, I wouldn't be so daft as to blame him for conceding a penalty but yesterday I just had this wonderful conviction that Gomes would save it. Easy to say now I know but he is that good!
