Southampton launch loan swoop for Tottenham defender Kyle Walker-Peters

Saints are eyeing cover for Cedric Soares and the England Under-20 World Cup winner is behind Kieran Trippier and Serge Aurier in Spurs pecking order

SOUTHAMPTON are ready to swoop for Kyle Walker-Peters before the deadline.

Mauricio Pellegrino wants cover for Cedric Soares and has the Tottenham full-back in his sights on a loan deal.

Swansea were also looking at Walker-Peters but Southampton are ahead of them in the queue.

They're still in the FA Cup so he could get some minutes in his natural position but Soares is miles away their starter so unless someone takes him out he'd just be a bench warmer there too. Maybe better than 3rd bench warmer here? Dunno. I feel like he is PL quality but finding someone who needs a starting RB at this point is going to be hard to come by.

Well he couldn’t play in the Fa Cup because he’s cup tied

He's cup-tied so won't be able to play in the FA Cup if he moved to them.

Anyway, if he's going to be back up anywhere it needs to be here. Rose has got injury problems so we need another left back and Trippier has been awful so once Rose is back we could do with KWP getting some chances to replace Trippier long term. We'd be mad to let him leave and if anything we should be recalling Onomah, if we can to boost our squad numbers.

With Alderweireld returning, I'd guess Vertonghen would be preferred on the left ahead of KWP as well.

Can't wait for the day when we commit to him as our backup RB to Aurier and sell Trippier.
I hope that he'll challenge Aurier for the spot, and that they'll rotate. He needs games now, preferably for us.
