From the Sporting life transfer centre (live) section today. From a writer who doesn't sound like a Spurs fan

http://www.sportinglife.com/football/transfer_centre

1255: Time to catch up on the emails. Colin Riley writes: "I think Voronin must have a lot of agents all e-mailing this site! He's 6 from 28 for Liverpool, so enough said for a 30-year-old. Rafa tried to offload him for around £2m last year but there were no takers. I thought some of you guys would have given me lists of top talent, but maybe 10m or less is just impossible? Who do the e-mailers think is the best Value for Money deal so far of the transfer window, and who'll prove to be the worst? I suggest Kyle Naughton may be the best VFM signing, with Roque the worst with his poor goalscoring record and injuries?"

1346: S Dex writes: "Value for money Kyle Naughton? You're having a laugh! We [Everton] agreed a fee for £5million and now Harry has had to pay (a reported) £10million, I have to go with Owen for Man Utd - he seems to be rejuvenated in a way we probably could not have. And I have seen the Saha pictures surely with his woeful heading ability he would want to keep the spotlight away from his slippery bonce."

1520: Colin Riley writes in to say: "I'd just like to clarify why I went for Kyle Naughton as a value buy. Let's say Spurs got him for about 7million. He's very young, big, fast, and already good enough to make the voted-for Championship 11 team. If he improves, Spurs will have a 20m player on their hands in three years.
"So they'll have had him for free maybe, and make a big profit on an Englishman.

We bought 2 kids, for top dollar, in the only position we have depth and cover and was never an issue in the first place.

Hes looked good from pre season friendlies but its a pointless question until hes actually played a few real games.

According to a season preview I read in The Times, we paid £2.5m rising to £5m for Naughton and £1.5m rising to £3m for Walker. That ties in with the £8m for the pair I'd read on here and certainly less than the (nonsense) £10m for Naughton in that 2nd Sporting Life post above.
As said above let's wait for him to play competitive games before getting too excited!

The thing is, even if he does good. So did Corky. So what is the point? We wasted money on that when we needed other areas addressing.

I thought the fee was undisclosed? And didn't we sign Walker as well, for a combined fee?

Thought it was £8m with add-ons for the pair. Not bad at all IMO.

Times Online reckons £3m going on up to £5m.

What happened? There is no Bale "hype", the positive opinion of Bale is based on evidence. He's hasn't been the same since he came back from injury but that doesn't mean everything else was hype.

Obviously we didn't pay anything like 11m for the pair, or 10m for Naughton. Read the sources and take a view. Most likely, a top fee of 6m for Naughton and 2m for Walker. You'd still wonder why that is. Naughton does look capable in a few areas, particularly covering for Lennon at RM.

One of Hutton or Chimbonda will be gone, most likely Hutton because of the fee and issues outside of football. Chimbo more likely to stay to allow Corluka to play at CB, because we could be looking at Woody and Daws being out for a while.

And after reading assessments like that from people who, unlike me, have actually seen him play, I see 10m as a bargain! This time next year we'll sell him to Utd for 30m. Maybe $50. Nice piece of business.
