Think the most telling thing, other than being totally unwilling to do a permanent deal, is that all the strikers we have been linked with this window have been pretty different in terms of style - leads me to believe we are simply looking for the best available player as a stopgap, rather than truly having a long-term interest in Piatek or the others.

Extremely happy we didn't get this guy. Not Premier league ready. Would have ended up being Rasiak mkii. I'd say 60% of the excitement on here was solely based on the fact that he's a striker. Had Kane not been injured nobody would have picked this guy as a squad strengthener.

Regardless of whether we managed to get this guy or not, it's absolute madness that a team who got into the Champions League final last season is 39 hours away from playing the last 4 months of their season without a single recognised striker. Fucking baffling.

Agreed. If this guy wasn’t deemed worth what Milan were asking, I’ve no dramas with passing on him, but to not have any alternatives is negligent. For the last few seasons now Kane has picked up fairly lengthy injuries, and we’ve failed time and again to address the backup within the squad, choosing to overload on AM options instead. I did think that given how vocal Mourinho had been about wanting a striker, this would be addressed. Still time admittedly, but leaving it till the last minute has cost us again during the games that have been played recently.
If our scouting setup cannot find anyone of the right quality, who is available at the right price, they are stealing a living. Highlights the need for a Luis Campos type appointment, someone to have a list of scouted targets, rather than opportunistic enquiries.
Could all change between now and tomorrow. It’s been a positive window so far, bit of a refresh, but getting a stylistically suitable and able striker makes or breaks this window, and potentially the rest of the season, because another 4 months of Moura up top isn’t going to get us top 4. I still think we’re a DM light too, but CF would be the priority.
I’m curious as to what all the hype was yesterday, mystery player at Hotspur way, plus the ITK cryptic, surely one must have been a striker, and maybe one a DM.

Question is,

You'd hope the club at least has a 4th or 5th choice option on the backburner as an emergency option. Even someone like Glen Murray on loan would be better than having no-one up front for the next couple of months (although we'd be the laughing stock of the league for a few weeks).

I thought he was a better option than Willian Jose, but can’t say I’m devastated if we have missed out. He’d have been a ‘nice to have’ option, not a ‘must have’.
Just hope we have someone else in mind who fits Mourinho’s needs, and doesn’t scream ‘Plan C panic signing’.
The key will be what Mourinho wants from a forward. The other possible candidates appear to be
Willian Jose - who I’m not convinced by. He looks like a slightly more skilled Llorente. Big, doesn’t appear the most mobile, but at least appears to have a decent shot on him and not just a header of the ball.
Paco Alcacer - arguably the most mobile of those linked. Does he have the ability to be a focal striker? Not the biggest, but then again City manage fine with Aguero as their main CF.
Wout Weghorst - not heard of him till yesterday. Looks very Llorente like, albeit seems to have more of a work ethic.
Olivier Giroud - this looks like Saha mk2. A Prem proven CF, currently out of favor, but very short term. Works hard, can be a bully, but not the most mobile

Have I missed anyone? Could there be someone as yet mentioned. There was talk of a change of style, all about fast transitions, that’s why I’ve placed emphasis on mobility.

VWeghorst replaced Janssen at Alkmaar, that's all I know about him

Slightly bizarre passing comment on the Guardian's transfer round up:

Krzysztof Piatek is moving from AC Milan to Hertha Berlin. Spurs had been interested, apparently, but there were concerns about how well he’d gel with Serge Aurier.

Hertha Berlin !! , does their manager know something about strikers, nice to see Jurgen looking good with long hair and lipstick in that photo above.
