Do people actually want Piatek or are we just that desperate? I mean lets not forget, if he isnt good enough then we are kinda stuck with him behind Kane... but we will be back to square one if he isnt that great to begin with and we still play Kane because well.. Piatek is erm poor.

Anyways just food for thought moreso than me thinking he is shit. To be honest not like we nee danyone other than someone competent when Kane is out.

And anyone who blindly defends him in the face of evidence that our squad is all over the place after he was in charge for 5 years is also deluded. It's not a binary choice, it's possible that Poch should take some (more than some imo) of the responsibility.

From soneone who still thinks Poch should have stayed to rebuild, yes Poch ofcourse is partly to blame, not one person is to blame but several from scouts, players, coaches, Poch and Levy.

If we had Llorente today we would have won. We lacked a focal point, someone with some kind of presence particularly when you had Aurier in good positions to cross but couldnt. Even if the ball doesnt get cross to Llorente, the fact is the defences would be occupied by someone whoi is a thread in there

I see what you did there.

Yeah, I’m not naive enough to think we’d get top four with Llorente in the squad, but if we sit on out hands it wouldn’t surprise me if we finished bottom half.

Why are you getting so angry? If we weren't looking at all I would understand it ... Odd.

What did you expect? we need someone who can come in and do a job for the measly prices that our dear leader would be willing to pay... this is the best we can hope for.

Lots of people seem set on signing any striker such as Benteke etc just to get a CF in. From what I have seen Piatek is pretty good but you’d think we should or could aim higher. Then you have to factor in that January window nonsense and the fact that potential sellers are fully aware that our marksman is inured and we need and you realise we are in a spot !!!

We are most definitely in a spot, and as usual it’s all entirely if of our own making.

I find it incredible that people can be negative at the prospect of signing a player who scored 22 Serie A goals (30 all comps) last season at the age of 23 as our new backup striker. He’s literally as good as it gets for that role.

I’d say the fact that Levy brought in Jose fucking Mourinho and refuses to back him with anything more than loans with no obligation— which by definition are basically just castaways — is shocking, but it isn’t with Levy.

I think we can dispense with all the “was it Levy or was it Poch’s stubbornness” chat. Levy is constitutionally incapable of backing a manager.
I'm taking this in here because I ain't getting banned for fucking up the ITK thread ...

Backing him is one thing - if you're talking about fullbacks or a defensive/holding midfielder or even a similar style replacement for the talent we're losing in Eriksen but I have barely seen one tenable link to a striker that beyond the summer would make any sense for Spurs or what Mourinho would want to build here.

Stop gap striker makes a tonne of sense unless we're talking about a Werner or similar ilk and I haven't seen a link to him. The Thomas Lemar link has been rubbished by some as not being worth the cash at the end of it so where does that leave us?

Fine, make the hot take, but unless I find out we've turned down a Werner or the like I can't be pissed about not signing a permanent striker that's going to be fucking dead wood in 6 months time.

We need a striker, if we can't get one that Jose wants for the long-term in this window then it should be a top priority in the summer. In the meantime a short term loan makes sense, rather than clog up the squad. As underwhelming as it would be to bring back Llorente at least he knows our players and the league. As a short-term stop-gap that makes more sense to me than bringing in a different striker on a short-term loan who doesn't have that.

Fair question tbf. Letting a bit of frustration out re how we trying to do things in
I'm guessing like it is for all those in the know who have more ready information to hand it is frustrating. Guess where sometimes the disconnect happens between fans and those with more knowledge than they can let on.

Happy to hold my hand up and admit to being frustrated but I'd rather a notoriously tight chairman not waste cash on a player that we all then know he has to sell further down the line. At least with a loan he goes back after we're done - sadly I would agree with those that say if we then had a shot at signing that loanee he'd fuck that up. It's all about balance I suppose, guess we'll see at the end of yet another window.

Hope is thin here.

I don’t disagree that a loan for a striker makes a bit of sense but what fucking indication is there that Levy is going to back Jose with a DM or fullbacks this window?

The tone has shifted from "Poch will be backed" to "Jose will be backed" to "We don't have money to spend" to "ENIC are looking to sell the club and won't spend" to "**** is looking at loans with no obligation." I'd absolutely love to be wrong but I think those of us who have sat through countless Daniel Levy specials knows exactly where this window is headed.

This is pretty much it. We don't want to pay top dollar so realistically what more can we expect? Unless our scouts have identified a hidden gem somewhere at a price Levy will sanction, this is the kind of deal I expect under him. Not watched much of Piatek so no real idea of what we would be getting but those who have watched him don't seem particularly convinced to say the least.

He comes in and either does well and we all hail it as astute business or he ends up being Janssen Mk2 and we struggle to shift him for the next couple of season and we get the usual story of we can't buy until we shift him etc. Unfortunately that's the way we seem to operate in a lot of our dealings. Would be interested to know if Piatek is someone Mourinho is pushing for and if it is, is he his first choice or someone further down the list.
