That's not the point I was making. The problem when you start debating these issues is people are terrified being branded racist.

My point was what happens further down the line when a player uses this tactic to try and get a game abandoned.

That's an extreme hypothetical that has never happened.

The racist abuse is something which has gone on for too long and if the authorities are not dealing with it sufficiently then the players have a right to deal with it.

The idea that players will start trying to get matches abandoned because they are losing will be an extraordinarily rare occasion at most.

Its already been discussed as an issue by the FA and UEFA. This is one of the reasons why they dont abandon games now. There was a real fear rival fans could infiltrate the home stands and start such chants if their team was behind. Get the match abandoned and replayed.

For me it's retrospective action by the footballing authorities and punitive action by the civil authorities.

And in the world of football no action is hypothetical in the extreme for some teams.

It's hypothetical until some teams or fans actually start to do it.

To be fair, I hadn't thought about that route at all. Good point well made.

I still think a player should walk off if subjected to racial abuse though. I don't know what the solution would be to your point though.

Well if you want to get pedantic you used a double negative. I was merely replying to that.

But seriously I do think he it could become an issue. For me the answer is to ban clubs/dock points etc. I think the officials should be the only people who should be able to stop a match unless someone has been physically hurt.

This was my point... You can't wait until it does happen, then it's too late!
You don't want it to get to a point where it can be used against the game itself. Sport should not stop because some ignorant minority misbehave.

Kick them out of the game, don't let them kick players out of the game. I have respect for those who stand up against racism and even walk off the pitch, but I just worry it could be used against the game and that must not happen.

UEFA fined Lazio for crowd trouble and their part in the violence during/before the Spurs game, and then fined Spurs for crowd disturbances.

I wouldn't put it past UEFA to fine Milan for walking off the pitch in a proper game. Blatter believes things can be solved with a manly handshake, after all, and says that players can't just run away from a match. The syphilitic auld fool.

Also this tactic may become a tactic for losing teams to get the game abandoned. 2-0 down at home, boo, monkey noise, black this, white that, blue waffle. Small fine, replay the game. Or pick up from where it was abandoned. FIFA/UEFA really need to think about the punishments and outcomes. Then think again because the decision they reach is bound to be wrong.

No ending the game, it should NEVER come to that unless someone's life is in danger.
Suspend game, empty the entire stand, resume.

THEN fine the club responsible for causing the trouble, what you don't do is dilly dally and let this become an issue whereby it could hypothetically speaking, lead to people deliberately trying to get a match interfered with and suspension of a game is bad enough.

It's like the lights out syndrome, whereby floodlights being sabotaged became a bit of an issue at lower league games for a while.

This is very likely a tiny minority thinking like this, but you implement strict and easy to follow laws now so that people have the power to protect people and the game.
