I believe it was said by that journalist who was known to have a personal relationship with AVB

And yes I agree pinch of salt - hence my saying it is difficult to know where to attribute blame some times (there is reasonable doubt either way in the Benteke affair I believe)

The facts you mention are also in line with the notion that AVB preferred to spend the money on Solado - as in the club already knew the cost of signing Soldado and when negotiations with Villa indicated that his fee would cost a similar amount to Soldado and Benteke no longer the cheaper option AVB insisted we opt for Soldado (again whether this is true or if the decision was Levy's or indeed someone elses is up for debate)

I know it is just one example - I said in the message I quoted you in that failure to cement deals once bidding for a player is all too common an occurrence with us and the line about selling clubs moving goal posts happens all too often to believe it is always their fault and none lies at the door of Levy (and or whoever has in put in getting these signings done)

Clearly there has been a problem at the club in the past getting deals done for the players we want and then resorted to cheaper, shitter alternatives (the summer window just gone is a perfect example of this) and it seems that the same may still be happening if we end up losing out on Wimmer and no doubt other targets going forward

Same old story I fear

On the AVB/Benteke matter, to reinforce what you're saying, there was a video that did the rounds at the time by some Villa fans who managed to get Benteke to roll down his window and have a chat with them as he was leaving the Villa training ground. They heckled him on if he was going anywhere, and he remained coy and said "I dunno," but when they asked him specifically if he wanted to move to Spurs, he lost the screen. Started grinning ear to ear and trying to cover his face. The message was clear as day as the Villa fans themselves reacted.

Not a doubt in my mind, he wanted it. I point to AVB as the reasoning behind that, just as his journo friend did.

In this case though, we've no idea. It might not even be on our end as Koln may just simply like other offers, and as it's not a transfer window they're under no obligation to finalize anything.

So ITK = pinch of salt required, the Mirror = Gospel?

Truth is we don't know what happened, whether we were even interested or we dropped interested due to AVB nor wanting him or if in fact Levy was trying to haggle and screwed it up.
It was the first article that came up, like I said it was across the media at the time. And if we're not going to take any media sources as genuine information then I dont even know why we are in this forum discussing anything transfer related TBH.

You can discuss an article without taking it as fact. If something had to be a fact to discuss it why have an ITK thread?

Because it's not a cold hard rule that because you may believe some articles to be speaking some sort of truth that you have to take every article as truth. It's about using your own brain to decipher the bullshit, same goes for the ITK thread. Like I said, the Benteke situation was widely reported across the media.

If you're referring to Jason Burt's article there is nothing in that saying AVB instructed Levy to end negotiations with Benteke to pursue Soldado, He only said that Soldado was one of the players AVB was happy to bring in that Summer (Paulinho and Capoue being the other 2).

There seem to be lots of truths to the Wimmer rumour and this recent (?) interview strengthens it

http://hereisthecity.com/en-gb/2015...rget-kevin-wimmer-confirms-he-has-spoken-to/?

The FC Koln defender is on looking like joining Tottenham in the summer.

It was reported last month by the London Evening Standard that Tottenham Hotspur were looming in on the signature of FC Koln defender Kevin Wimmer.

The Austrian defender has showed some good form for the German cub this season and Mauricio Pochettino is reportedly very confident of agreeing a £5 million fee for the player to arrive in the summer.

Those reports have continued and now the player has spoken about the links in an interview with German daily Bild.

Wimmer spoke candidly about his future with Bild, stating:

"Both coaches see the positive for me and think that I should use it as an opportunity. No one has talked poorly to me.

"[The Premier League] would be the next big step for me. I think that is a very good league in which I could help develop myself very well.

"Yes, I have seen much of the city [London] and also the club system of Tottenham. It is not so bad.

"The current coach Mauricio Pochettino is very well positioned at Tottenham. He told me that he relies on young players and I was observed very often."

Spurs are said to be after a new defender, as the form of Younes Kaboul, Vlad Chiriches and Federico Fazio has been far from convincing this season.

Wimmer, who can also play at left-back, has been in fantastic form this season and it seems as though he is all set to join Tottenham Hotspur in the summer.

Spurs fans will hope he, along with Eric Dier, Jan Vertonghen and any of the strugglers that might come good form, can shore up the Tottenham defence and help guide them to Champions League qualification next season.
