Was on the Spurs website because wanted to see what number Woodgate had and noticed that neither Boateng or Taarabt are in the 1st team profiles so thought they might be in the reserves profiles but they weren't there either.

Have I missed something?

maybe all the players who need to work harder, improve their concentration and team play have not been given numbers so they know that they are on the fringes and know exactly what they need to do. (i.e improve their game and wait for their chance)

I went to see Palace last season and their regulars were better than KPB and Sinclair the loanee was streets ahead of Taraabt .

Should have kept Malbranque and accepted any offer we could get for these two .

Sinclair has played for Chelsea's first team and is the most likely to break through there so not really surprising.

I know this thread didn't get much interest but I don't see the logic in casting off Taarabt and Boateng. While I have to concede that Boateng has as far flattered to decieve, Taarabt is a player with genuine potential. When I have seen him play, which ahsn't been too often he looked to have that extra bit of guile about him. He's not a Veira or a Keane but more a Fabregas type player. If given the right type of focus in his his game I think he could be world class. Maybe I'm wrong but He has shown enough flashes to suggest there is more to his game.

They haven't left the club but do you really see them playing over what we have in the midfield?? Modric, JJ, Bentley, Lennon, Dos Santos, Huddlestone, O'hara, and Zokora are all well above them on the teamsheet so what is the big deal if they moved on?? If you aren't better than our backups what are you so worried about?? Its not like when they were given a chance they took it and ran with it, they both looked out of place in the first team last year so what is the big deal??

On top of all of this Spurs are looking for a def. midfielder to clog up the midfield even more so if we get one there will be even less of a chance these two will play. These two remind me of Helder Postiga, when he got his chance he didn't take it and was moved on, people on here were screaming from the mountain tops that we will rue the day we let him go but does anyone really miss him? Would you rather have him playing than Keane and Berby? Hell Kanoute and Defoe were far superior to him which will also be the case with these two as I would much rather have Modric and Bentley playing than these two. They should be loaned out to a Championship or higher level team and see if they can improve on someone else's time, not ours. We don't have the time or space to waste trying to get these guys to improve.

Ramos remains in the market for defensive cover. "We have got one or two areas that we need to look at defensively, maybe solve a few problems at the back," he said. "The technical staff chat about them and we have discussions with the sporting director [Damien Comolli]." Ramos, however, wants to work with a more streamlined first-team squad and several fringe players have not been given squad numbers this season while they have also been asked to train with the reserves.

Kevin-Prince Boateng, who arrived for £5m last summer, has seen his No17 shirt go to Giovani dos Santos while Lee Young-pyo has relinquished the No3 to Gareth Bale. Adel Taarabt, Paul Stalteri, Ricardo Rocha, Hossam Ghaly and Andy Barcham are the others who are not listed with numbers at present.

Looks like the club is trying to encourage the player to initiate a transfer request/buy their contract out ?

Are there any financial advantages to the club in doing this ?

Taarabt is worth preservering with. KPB needs to show us what he can do, however I doubt he'll ever get the chance.

IMO, both are better talents than O'Hara.

They are both on the spurs website under 'professionals' which is the reserve team players. Doesnt look very promising for them!

I think we'll see Taarabt a few times again this year, Ramos seemed like he was giving him some time in pre-season.

Boateng is either on his way out or been told to work hard in the reserves to prove himself. He seems to have dropped right off the radar.

i agree with keep ing Taraabt and would be happy to sell KPB.

As for being selfish, I can't say I agree. Well maybe KPB but not Taraabt. He simply does not know any better. There is no doubt he is a massive talent but just needs the wisdom of both Ramos and senior players to guide and mould him in the right direction. He is still young and I do think he could become a big player for us in 2 years.

KPB does appear to be more selfish and doesn't have a particularly good attitude, hence the reason he got glassed recently in a nightclub:rofl:

Squad size

Was going to start a new thread, but seen this one instead.

Just looking through the official site, I stumbled across the squad profiles section, and realised there was only 20 players listed!

I know KPB, Taarabt et al aren't listed, but are still our players, but this means that today the matchday squad was
Tottenham
Heurelho Gomes Didier Zokora Benoit Assou-Ekotto Ledley King Jonathan Woodgate Aaron Lennon David Bentley Jermaine Jenas Luka Modric Gareth Bale Darren Bent Substitutes
Cesar Sanchez , Tom Huddlestone , Gilberto , Chris Gunter , Giovani dos Santos , Michael Dawson , Jamie O'Hara

Which is a squad of 18, Hutton's the 19th (injured) and the only player left out was Berbatov. This, I think, is a clear indication that we are looking for around 3 players to bring in, and also, for the younger players to kick on and get in that squad. Ramos came in, there was a massive squad, there has now been a mass exodus, and there is now, I suppose, three places left to fight for, four if Berba goes, but we would have a replacement lined up anyway.

This also has to be bye-bye Berba in my eyes, this next 8 days are going to be hell, please don't let us have another Kanoute situation.

O'Hara is a trier. I've always admired him for that.

IMO O'Hara is deeply underrated on the forums, and unfairly maligned.

Played in his natural position in Midfield, and not as a makeshift Fullback, as he was alot last season, he is an asset to the squad and will continue to improve. We could've used him today.

i concur,

he's a young player, he came into the squad last season and has played well, he's not ronaldo with stepovers, he's not gerrard with last minute goals from outside the box. what he is is hardworking decent midfielder, who will do the simple thing, he'll score a few goals and create a few. what more do we want from him?
