Exactly. Maybe just maybe the papers got wind that we’d enquired or the agent was doing his job in drumming up interest. Maybe it had something to do with Jan being linked with going there and he didn’t fancy Italy so the deal fell apart over that. Maybe none of us have a clue if we were even in for him in the first place or who even leaked the news we were. Or maybe the writer just made it up. Nobody knows.

Our ITK confirmed that we were interested?

Yep.

I'd like to say I do think we need to be finding another fine central defender prospect, even with Tanganga and his debut last night.

No idea if Koulibaly is that player or there is another and I have no idea if we are looking for this window or the next, but I agree with those who say it needs to be addressed.

Funny thing is not everyone was sold (on here at least) that in excess of £70 mill was worth spunking on him considering the holes we have in our team.

Now it's a PR stunt.

I Can't keep up.
I can't see what the club would gain from such a PR 'stunt'. The fans aren't going to say: "fair play Daniel, you tried your best, I'm well satisfied". Newspapers do put two and two together and make five frequently.

Yeah, at a loss when about the PR - I mean if he moves to United or something this window it just riles people even more. Not that it takes much.

Plenty of people on here do that exact thing haha!

You know what I found funny?

Watching a youtube video of the striker Piatek we've been linked with knocking 2 goals past this guy in the Italian league.

That accusation has floated around for years. It's not that his approach isn't frustrating at times but I don't buy that the club deliberately put it out that we were after him just to try and placate the fans.

It is of course possible that it's different people voicing those differing opinions, but I too have noticed a seemingly greater than usual amount of the following this window.
SC: FFS Levy, sign someone.
Also SC: FFS Levy, not him!

This screams standard PR from the club. Never intended to go after him but wanted to make it look like we are trying. Meanwhile we sign a young guy on loan in a position we dont really need.
I never understand this point of view. Why would the club want fans to get their hopes up, only to be disappointed? If anything, that’s bad PR.

Sounds like it’s very close to Man U.

I am in no way surprised that he’s not coming to us. Bizarre that anyone thought otherwise

Pretty sure ITK's in the past have suggested the club leaks certain info through different channels to appease the fans at times. Levy going after Aguero with a wheelbarrow of cash but we all know he would never have paid for him, failing to sign a striker in one of the windows so instead they sneakily edited Son's profile so that his position said Striker so that they couldnt be accused of not having another one on our books (fans on twitter called them out on this instantly).

Would you really be surprised if the club leaked that it was trying to sign elite players so that the fans believed we were trying to be as ambitious as possible. It works all the time as so many fans even on here lap it up and say "well at least we are trying for this type of player. It shows we are trying to compete with the big boys!"

I may be wrong and you dont have to agree with anything I've said but it really wouldnt be surprising if true and I think there have been clear examples of it possibly being true over the years.

He’s been close to signing for us, Chelsea, West Ham and United this window. Typical Agent driven rubbish!
