obviously everyone's got faith

You know you're talking to yourself, right? Quoting your own posts and replying to the things you've said, most of us have as an internal monologue, I've not seen one happen in the wild though.

I've come to be a skeptic over the transfer window, reading the ITK and filing it away in my head but never getting my hopes up. Koulibaly is a "get your hopes up" player. Really hope that Jose has some magic trick to convince him to come to Spurs.

To be fair we might have already seen the club start to accept lower fees for players in the summer. Trippier went for a fair amount, as did Janssen and N'koudou. We also agreed a deal for Wanyama before the player pulled out of the move at the last minute. I'm not sure if we had any bids for Eriksen? I'd love to know what happened with Danny Rose though. That all seemed very strange.
Trippier was a fucking steal, and I think we are missing him - certainly from a crossing / delivery perspective. And I’d argue that he’s no worse than Aurier defending either.

Trippiers crosses/delivery is very overrated. He couldn’t even do that in his last season here.

By his own admission, he had a poor season in his last season with us, but has seen an improvement at Athletico. Overall his delivery was excellent.
Anyway - not a discussion for this thread.

Agree to disagree. I haven’t seen Aurier lose us directly points this season by personal errors, maybe one time? Trippier costs us like 9 points alone last season.
Also look at the cross from Aurier to Lucas last match. Trippier can’t do that, as he can’t hit the ball in that way that precisely. Aurier has multiple good crosses this season which led to a goal.

So overall we don’t miss Trippier. We needed a replacement though.

Trippier was a "grass is surely greener" moment for our fans - they wanted "something better" but without considering who, whether they'd want to come, how much they'd cost, etc.

They gave him dogs abuse for a six month slack period - anyone remember Lennon? Wonderkid who leveled out and became the most average glass of water for two seasons then all of a sudden finds a new layer to his game and starts to light the place up again. Bet we're glad we had the time to spare for Sissoko, but Trippier? Nah, screw that guy, no hoper, etc.

Our patience and our attention spans get shorter every day.

Are you being serious or taking the piss? Without hesitation Liverpool away Penalty for Mane which was abysmal. Chelsea home game sleeping on the short corner. Bayern Munich he was responsible for at least one of the many goals and although we got away with it getting sent off against Southampton and having to play with 10 men.

Are you? Penalty yes.
Are those directly costing us points? Sleeping on a short corner and William shooting from outside the box? Remember the Trippier comical own goal vs Chelsea and many more?

And the Aurier own goal against Norwich cost us points a couple of weeks ago. They're both capable of making a mistake that can costs us.
And they can both deliver a decent cross, but Trippier was always better at delivering a ball from deep rather than having to beat his man and get the ball in.

When I mentioned Trippier earlier it was just to highlight that our approach to selling players might have changed, maybe we should take the Aurier vs Trippier debate to a different thread?

In light of Sissoko's injury, it would be particularly perplexing if we now spent big money on Koulibaly and neglected the midfield area. What's the point in buying a 28 year old centre back for short term success if we can't achieve short term success because our midfield is either unfit or inept?

People forget, in the case of Van Dijk it was clear Liverpool weren't too far off significant success. They were obviously planning a significant £200m+ investment and VVD was an early part of that. It was also their clear weakness in the team.

Sure Sanchez and Toby have been patchy, Toby has declined but he's still OK. Compared to the plodding Dier, Sissoko and Wanyama in midfield backed up by the shaky Winks it's no contest where our weaknesses lie though.

Daniel Levy surely isn't this daft. If he doesn't invest at all now, we will need some sort of credible plan backed up by significant action in the summer if we finish in the Europa League or worse. No signings now means 4-5 quality signings required in the summer at the very least just to be competitive.

If not, there's very little chance of us getting back in the CL in the foreseeable future that's for sure. It's hard to see all of the rest of the top 6 plus Leicester and Wolves being worse than us. We'll be the 8th best team in the division if we're not careful.

To mitigate the financial risk, significant funds need investing in young hungry under 25 players in the Ndombele and Lo Celso mould who retain sales value in case they don't work out. Doing some of that now whilst we still have a significant standing and can give foreign players 6 months to adapt could be important.

To those that are saying it's fine we have money now, that pot will quickly evaporate over the next couple of years if we don't start addressing our weakest areas first.

I feel like signing only KK now would be like adding an £80m cherry to the top of a cake with crumbling foundations.

Well if Foyth does leave that leaves us with 4,
Perhaps 5 centre backs if you consider Davies as a left sided of a three. Is that enough ? From an academy point of view there is Eyoma and one or two others.
I would suggest though, as I suspect, Jan will not sign a new contract and will leave in the sunmer a senior centre back will be signed then. Koulibaly May decide this summer is the time for him to leave although, purely from a longevity point of view, I am not-sure He is the player we should sign

This screams standard PR from the club. Never intended to go after him but wanted to make it look like we are trying. Meanwhile we sign a young guy on loan in a position we dont really need.

Funny thing is not everyone was sold (on here at least) that in excess of £70 mill was worth spunking on him considering the holes we have in our team.

Now it's a PR stunt.

I Can't keep up.

Exactly. Maybe just maybe the papers got wind that we’d enquired or the agent was doing his job in drumming up interest. Maybe it had something to do with Jan being linked with going there and he didn’t fancy Italy so the deal fell apart over that. Maybe none of us have a clue if we were even in for him in the first place or who even leaked the news we were. Or maybe the writer just made it up. Nobody knows.
