People will laugh but I love signings like this.

TOTTENHAM want to exploit Wigan’s crisis with a double swoop for England youth pair Joe Gelhardt and Jensen Weir.

Spurs have asked about the duo and the administrators running the Latics confirmed they have received an official approach for the 18-year-olds.

Striker Gelhardt is also wanted by Everton but canny Spurs want to take him to Jose Mourinho’s squad.

Tottenham scouts hope he could be groomed into the next Harry Kane.

Gelhardt has been given plenty of game time this season, making 17 senior appearances - mostly from the bench - and scoring once.

He's also got three goals in six caps for England's Under-18s.

Weir, son of Everton cult hero David, is also fancied by the Londoners, who want to snap up the pair cheap.

Brighton - who owe Wigan a sizeable sum if they stay up as part of the Dan Burn deal - also plan to raid troubled Wigan for Weir, where ironically, dad David is one of their scouts.

Midfielder Weir also has six caps for England U18s and made his senior debut earlier this season in the League Cup.

People will laugh but I'm still laughing that 75% of this board thought Bruno Fernandes wouldn't make it in the PL. And weirdly a decent majority of those are now on here saying we messed up. I give up with football.

There's definitely gaps in our youth though. Big teams have been snapping up excessive amounts of other teams youth talent for a few years now. It's about time we got into that sign em up, loan em out, hope they make it racket.

Do you have evidence.

Boosting the squad with some home grown bargains is never really a bad idea.

This are signings we should get behind. Obviously that our squad needs a refurbish and get talented players in rather than a pack of guys in their late 30’s

Perfect time to throw the nets over some young talents. HG, young....bring plenty in for a year or two, surely they can’t all be trash.

Our current youth players don’t seem like the best generation we’ve had. Makes sense to bring in some HG talent in that case.

Anything to suggest he's better than Parrott? If not, he'd be a second young striker with potential who struggles to make the bench even when Kane is injured...

We need to be swiping as many young talents as we can. We ain't producing enough from the academy and it's one way we can ensure we have continuation as some of them will step up. Look at Chelsea and United, they have at least 5 youngsters each who are making strides. Us on the other hand have none.

Yeah I don't think it's the academy's fault necessarily but it can just happen once every 5 or 6 years that there's a bit of a gap between the 15 year olds and the first team talent wise.

We need to hover up as many young talents as possible. Send them to loan like what chelsea did with Tammy Abraham or Ruben Loftus Cheek..

I think we are the only Premier League club who are not producing enough quality Academy players anymore... All are small, tidy neat footballers and that's about it.

The ideal scenario is Levy buys him at a bargain then loans him out for an eventual profit or starter role if he shows promise

Yes, that's a perfect description of Japhet Tanganga.
