I was really confused by the move as well.

I thought Hector Herrera would be the linchpin for a Moutinho move as he screams the type of signing they would make. Around 8m and he's got that deep-lying playmaker skill set. They love going with youth and pretty much investing their future in them.

Izmailov screams of a stop-gap. In a way it has me a little more hopeful over Moutinho. Perhaps there were complications with getting in Herrera this month and so for now they've gone with a quick style Dempsey-esque alternative? As you say, it's not a typical Porto signing.

Pretty sure the reporter asked about moutinho to spurs and porto's boss said he had no comment on speculation.

I WANT MOUTINHO!... not heard anything genuine about it for a while though which is possibly concerning, doubt DL would pay £22m for one player anyway though tbh. But would love him to prove me wrong!

weirdly schizophrenic of them linking in that very article to another article, same newspaper same day, saying we're bidding for Belhanda as we see him as better value than Moutinho!

do u believe that though?

From The Linked Article said:
Spurs chairman will offer less than the £24m they bid last summer by arguing his value has decreased over time

I believe that Levy really would at least try to make that argument, and I bet he could pull it off against some of the people he has dealt with. ;)

I admire Levy and some of his unbelivable deals (especially the Fryers one-immense and hilarious!) but I doubt that he will buy a player for that much money because he isn't particularly keen on splashing out on 1 player and it probably doesn't help with bent and bentley being two huge flops so I don't see why he'd break our transfer record on someone that isn't even his target and comes from overseas, I think he'll see it as to big a risk unfortunately. I just think that he should loosen up a bit and take a chance, especially with the quality of Mouts and especially how we threw 3rd place away at near this stage last season and none of us want that to happen again, we failed to strengthen last season and we surely can't do it again but I don't see it, not in January anyway, I'd love him to prove me wrong and I hope he does but I doubt it :(

Where does he fit in?

433 alongside Sandro and Dembele, but we'll need another goalscorer alongside Bale and Ade/Defoe up top to make it really work. Much as I rate Lennon he's not ideal for a 433. Perhaps it would tick more with an on-form Dempsey but either way we lack a depth of personnel for the formation. Would love to sign Moutinho but we definitely need a wide forward/goal scoring winger as well.

I cant see Moutinho coming. It smells of desperation buying at an increased value in a Jan sale and we are not there yet. Porto arent going to sell either while they are still in key competitions. I'd be really surprised if Levy pulled this off.

If we sign him this window.....what are peoples thoughts on trying to accommodate Moutinho, Dembele, Sandro, and Parker in our 4 2 3 1 formation that we seem to be playing a lot (or even 4 4 2 where there will be 2 sitting)....4 very good players who will all want regular games.

he will probably replace Dempsey and play in the hole as an AM

nothing will move Sandro and Dembele from that double DM set up we have, they have been our best 2 players
