Do you think? Thought he looked ok at a particularly tricky part of the game. I'm more disappointed in Sarr, he's young but quite often young players come on in huge chunks and he seems to be regressing if anything.
I thought Sarr was excellent yesterday especially in the first half. He was everywhere.

I thought so too. Perhaps he didn't do enough in the final third but he was okay.

Perhaps the midfield all got a bit tired as we know Ange's demands are relentless.

It's why we absolutely need 7 midfielders because they all need to have rest periods or be able to give everything for 60 and then be benched.

The goal stuffed us and I think those players couldn't raise levels again.

Having said that, Ange should be recognizing stuff like that and switching players faster. Perhaps he wanted to give them a few more mins to see if that was indeed the case but we can't be getting away with 10-15 minute periods where they energy and control disappears with the flick of a switch

I think people will twist themselves in knots trying to work out what Ange really wants , what players in our squad fit what we think he wants and what players we need to buy to fit into what we think Ange wants !

No doubt in the next week or so we'll get an out of the blue signing to baffle us all a bit more.
Spoke to Ange last night and he told me he wants a 6 and a 9

👍

I think our whole midfield did well in the first half last night, but defensively when tested it all fell apart. I'd love someone that I'd a specialist in that role, it really does offer so much for the team when there is solidity at the back.

Like Kante, rodri, makele etc. i hope Gomes can be that for us.
Those are three very different midfielders...

Kante is energetic all action box to box, not really a 'holding midfielder'

Rodri is a DM who puts is defensively astute and progresses the ball well.

Makelele did the 'Makele role' of sitting and making sure he covered the gaps.

A prime Kante next to Rodri would probably never concede a goal ever.

What we need is an old fashioned everywhere destroyer. Someone who is defensively astute and tackles like a demon. More like Kante (That sounds like Joao Gomes to me)

Bentancur and Bissouma have the technical aspects but not really the defensive discipline. Sarr was very good at the box to box role the other night, energy wise, he'll probably develop into a Kante esque player in time. (Imo)

I worry about the midfield, I'm not confident that Bentancur will fully regain his pre injury prowess, I'm also not convinced Bissouma can be consistent for a season. Which leaves us with Gray who is 18.

So for me this link makes sense, I imagine the idea is he takes Sarrs place, and gives help to Bentancur/Bissouma/Gray...

The problem we have is out of possession, Maddison, Son and Johnson are pretty ineffective although I thought Johnson was better in this regard on Monday.

Players like Bergval and Kulusevski are going to be very important going forward to make up for our lack of tackling further forward.

If Ange gets the balance right we could be a very special team, but we look fragile at the moment.

agree especially about Ange making changes much earlier. We have 5 from 9 to put on and we need to make more and earlier use of them.
Last nights result has made people question the midfield but they all played well last night just needed changing quicker. If the attack had converted their chances and, especially, if Romero had done his job, which was to mark Vardy, people would have, quite rightly, been praising the midfield 3.

They are all different in many ways but they have defensive steel at their core. They are all defensive midfielders first and then the other stuff second. We have players that are other attributes first and defense second.

Sarr was fine. There was maybe a period in the second half where I though maybe we could do with a more technical player on for him, but he was doing a lot of good work out there.
he disappeared though when they seized the initiative just like those around him

You can repeat this a hundred times over, but it will not resonate with the majority of SC-posters. As a group we seem to be stuck with the idea that we desperately need a 6 and/or a DM.

I tend to agree with you and Ange (and a certain admin) that we should look beyond the numerology. What we need and are looking for, is someone that can do a combination of what Sarr, Benta, et al already are doing - AND knows how to defend.
Call him what you like but I think we need a quality CM that is a leader with a strength of character. Sadly we really are soft and I hate saying it, but it’s been apparent for too long.

So new DM by the weekend? Great!

Last night did show that the new young players, whilst excellent, have a long way to go before we can rely on them consistently.
Sadly it wasn’t just the young players that have a long way to go before we can rely on them consistently.

What we really are missing in midfield is the powerhouse pairing of Wanyama and Dembele. Man, you wouldn’t fancy playing against those two.

Best CM pairing we’ve had in recent times. Unstoppable.

Such a shame that Wanyama had his injuries, and also that we couldn’t clone MOUSSA and have him forever. What a player. Genuinely brilliant

A weird thread. Hard to get engaged one way or the other as we haven’t been connected in any meaningful way to the player yet. Just some mild conjecture and whispers.

Don’t get me wrong. He could be a good signing. Just haven’t heard a peep in the press. Until then, I am guessing it is more likely we will see another ‘out of left field’ signing, as opposed to getting this guy.

Has he signed yet or is everyone just wasting their time saying the same thing about a speculated target?
Wait for the guy to hold up the shirt on the website hey

We’ve had ITK from Herc and WLB. Tell me about the peeps you heard in the press about Odobert or Solanke?

We’re not going to have blow by blow updates any more under Lange.

I don’t really rate this guy that much. Doesn’t seem to different to what PEH offered for us another non technical but hard working players. I dread to see us with him in CM replacing Bentancur on Sunday with an already technically deficient midfield and attack other than Maddison. Yes we would win the ball but also lose it often.
I wouldn’t know what he may offer us?
