What is "his game"

been thinking the same thing everytime he plays.

the boy can score when he's bombing forward in support. but he seems intent on staying around the half way line... where he keeps giving the ball away.

he's shit at free kicks, he's shit at taking corners. i can count on one hand how many times he's delivered the killing set piece.

he's useless at the mo. i really really do hope he'll proves me and a lot of others wrong...

Jenas had an awful game last night - noone is doubting that - easily the worst player on the pitch and was shocking - I liken his display to that of Ghaly when he was subbed as the sub......

What I dont understand with Jenas is that he should be the kind of player who grabs a game and dictates it - he doesn't and very rarely contributes. A priority in the January window is a central holding midfielder (someone like Graveson) who is prepared to put in the donkey work which allows the other midfielder the opportunity to go forward.

What I dont understand is why we spent £5m on Boateng for him not to be involved at all - lets try him - he cant do any worse at the moment in place of Jenas.

I thought this would be his best season yet for us.

His strengths (goal scoring, dribbling from deep, coverage) haven't really been on display and his weaknesses (keeping the ball, passing, set pieces, presence) have been amplified.

Playing with zokora doesn't help him at all but really he has been turd this season. He's far from the only one though.

he has the potenial to be a good player but sadly its not happing in the big games, he goes missing when it gets tough but when we play the likes of Derby he is good i would say he is the first name on the team sheet when he is fit

Jenas is really not on form for us and, as far as i remember, hasn't actually put in many good shows for us, highlighted only on the occaisons where he actually does what he should do and charges into that box to knock one home. Sadly, without someone similar to Carrick playing in behind him to hold up the play and really dictate the tempo, he tends to vanish most games.

His one main problem i've noticed is his first touch is woeful. Everytime he picks up a pass it's 50/50 if he'll get a second touch, if he's dribbling the ball and anyone comes near him he clumps it too far to run onto, but insists on trying over and over again. Ghaly, in one game, had a stinker trying the same holywood ball over the top and he was slaughtered even before he chucked the shirt - is it his big sad puppy dog eyes that keep Martin fielding him when he's rarely produced anything more than the much abused Routledge?

He's not fitting in this year, he should be charging on to receive when Berbatov nods it down from one of Robbo or Dawsons monster hooves up field, instead he finds himself picking up the ball and dithering about until he loses posession.

has to pick up his game or go have a rest and see what damage Steed or Lennon could do in the central attacking spot.

Don't get me started on Lennon

Once again, I must stress, Jenas is... how do you say it... FUCKIN USELESS!
He is supposed to be our 'playmaker'??

You can suck my balls Jenas.

You must watch another game. JJ never has been and never will be a playmaker and has never supposed to have been our playmaker.

Jenas has been frustrating over the years, so this comes as no surprise. I'm more astonished that Jol would play Jenas against the Toon when it's clear again and again and again he never plays well against them, starting from that botched goal run that failed to find the net a yard out 2 years ago. Whatever positive things Jenas might say about the game pre-match, he won't deliver, it's that simple. Far more than Robinson, I think Jenas' iron lock on the 1st team is the one sacred cow a new manager has to off the first thing into his stint.

It is time to wake up MJ. Central midfielders are most critical players if you want to succeed. Why we won't try Hudd and TT in the middle? I think they gonna do it little bit better than JJ and Zoko. We need changes before it is too late.

He ain't gonna change shit.

As far as Jenas goes, when I heard he was annoyed at not being included in the England squad a few weeks ago, that was all I needed to hear to confirm that he's totally fucking deluded. He needs a slap, legend in his own mind. And if I hear another player talk about us having enough 'quality' to get out of this, I'm gonna get my fucking chainsaw! All I wanna hear from now on is how hard they are working in training and how hard they are gonna work on the pitch and how much desire and mad passion they are gonna play with from now on.

'Quality' means shit without heart and we need major heart surgery.

Its obvious we need a leader, a ball winner and a team player in central midfield...is there anyone coming thru the ranks in the academy who is even remotely like that?

He played well second half up at Anfield but no one really mentions that, as soon as we have a bad result its the same old stuff on here. Wait till Keano goes a few games without a goal he will be the whipping boy again like he was a few weeks back. JJ played toilet against the toon, yeah. so did literally every other player bar Kaboul. The team as a whole has no confidence atm, team starts playin better then im sure JJ will as well.

Don't forget, Hudd's only 19 and this season has already shown his willing to get stuck in to a tackle where he wasn't last term. Give him a couple more years to find his feet and i see him as a real tower of power in the midfield.

Good to see him get booked for showing a bit of passion the other week too - he was far too mild mannered last year, nice to see he cares

I just don't get this whole assumption people have. The "oh well he'll perform better when the teams playing better". No fucking shit. That's obvious.

When the chips are down, top players stand up and are counted. Galvanising the team and driving us forward. Leading by example. And that sadly is why JJ will never be anything bar a so and so Prem midfielder. People shouldn't get their hopes up for him. Sadly, he's the best we've got.

The main trouble with Jenas is that 90% of the time he gets the ball he is facing his own goal. This limits his options to a back or short square pass as you don't get time to turn often at this level. if you look at all of the top class midfielders most of the time they collect the ball either side on or facing the opponents goal making their options so much more. if he hasn't learnt this yet at this stage of his career he never will.
He is without doubt a great athlete but has no football brain ,if we wanted great athletes to run our midfield we should sign Sebastien Coe. JJ would be a good championship level player and a great player in the lower divisions but as a Premier League top rank midfielder he just hasn't got it.

Proof you know nothing.
JJ covers more ground than any other player, and is consistently making tackles at either END of the field.

There are a lot of comments about how much ground Jenas covers, and it confirms my evaluation that Jenas is on par with the referee and the groundsman!

Even the likes of Fabregas would struggle to look decent in our midfield!

Quite simply we play so so deep it is virtually impossible for our central midfield players to cope with the ground between defence and attack.

They spend virtually the whole 90 minutes doing doggies, oh what joy that must be.
