I like him.

What I don't like is that he'd be a spreadsheet buy to hit the zero net spend target.

For shits n giggles, imagine if you will...

Ins:

Shaw?? £15m??
Grealish £25m?
Kovacic £50m?
Pavard/similar £40m
Rodriguez £18m

= £148m

Outs:

Toby £60m?
Rose £35m?
Wanyama (Roma links today) £40m?
Janssen £2m Loan fee?
Sissoko £3m Loan fee?
Nkoudou £2m Loan fee?
Llorente £2m Loan fee?

= £144m

No need to take issue with those proxy valuations - the point is you can see where Levy is going with this...

pretty decent player until he tore his ACL, but no thanks

He was pretty good for WBA last season. Battered Liverpool and was a proper handful the bits I saw of him. People seem to think we should sign a worldie to sit on the bench and wait for HK to get injured, but we won't. Martial or Zaha would get plenty of minutes but Son would miss out IMO and is that such a good thing? He'd give us a lot more than Llorente or Janssen and I'd rather get him in than nobody which is a distinct possibility.

You think Levy would buy a player just to make net spend turn positive? I suspect he’d love a huge negative net spend.

I like Jay, and think he'd be great for us.

As has been mentioned, he's HG, Poch likes him, has been proved to flourish in a Poch team before, and our history shows that we seem to do better with these kind of signings.

He's not a bad player but we really need to be aiming higher than someone like Rodriguez

I'm thinking of a Llorente type backup. I think we need players who add that depth without being completely inexperienced, and yet are familiar with what is expected. He can also play in a number of positions, which offers flexibility we don't have.

It'll probably never happen, but just saying if it does, I wouldn't mind.

It is my hope that this link is BS.

Therefore, please let my post be the last so that this thread can drift off into oblivion.

I'm setting my expectations low, so low that even a deadline day signing of Jay Rodriguez will have in it an echo of glory.

would he? six the one way half a dozen the other to my eye. Id just as soon the club save the money and keep Llorente.

If it comes down to Rodriguez and having the chance to get Janssen, Llorente & GKN off our books it would be a great deal to do

Let's be honest, he could replace all of those and free up non-HG slots.

Comes across as a Harry Redknapp style signing though, so it probably wouldn't happen. He's a bit too old (just turned 29) to expect a profit from, so I can only imagine £20m might be a bit rich for us

Everton or West Ham level at best. Not good enough for us. But hey, it’s not as if we scout decent attackers is it.
