The player Defoe could have been. He has his flaws but would be a great foil/alternative to Soldado.

Honestly, I don't think this would be a great signing. He is a more specialized version of Bobby Soldier. He thrives in and around the six yard box and scores goals for fun in there, but offers nothing else. Problem is, in our current set up, he will never see the ball in that area. We rarely work the ball into the box, which has already isolated Soldado, who has more of an all around game than Javier. I understand AVB's Porto relied on a true finisher, but unless things dramatically change in the next week, that's just not the kind of player we need, especially when we've got Soldado. I'd prefer someone who offers something different to come off the bench then adding a second poacher. Also, I hate El Tri.

This makes sense to me, he's the perfect understudy to Soldado. Great attitude too. Hope it's true.

This is a great argument...agree 100%.....but as someone else said "not for 15GBP more like 6GBP" - them I'm on board with this

I'm with ya, and I'd like to think my American bias has nothing to do with it. In fact, iirc, the guy's never even scored against us. But I think you're spot on, his style is very similar to Soldado's. Just not worth the amount of cash we'd have to give to Man U. What we should've done is not let Yilmaz slip away to Lazio. Eight goals in nine Champs League games sold for 9 million euros. May be the snatch of the window, well done to Lazio.

However, with Eriksen coming in and Holtby returning from injury, I think the impetus of our direct play into the box is set to increase dramatically. Soldado won't be waiting up top alone and praying someone will deliver him the rock for much longer.

Don't think he is a bad player, but IMHO we need something stylistically different coming off the bench. Instead of a poacher, a more physical, pace, power, true no. 9, would seem to add a missing dimension and provide tactical flexibility.

Hernandez is probably the most underrated striker in the league IMO.

*IF* he's available - and I'd be surprised if he is - we'd be mad not to take him. However I don't think he'd come. But then with Rooney seemingly staying at United (for now at least) along with RVP and Welbeck, why would you stay there?

I just can't fathom why Utd would sell him - especially to us so i'm filing this one alongside Mata as 'bollocks'.

He would be awesome here. Has Pace and knows where the goal is. We are not playing hoof ball to ade anymore, we will be playing through balls to Soldado ... no need to change the set up or style if Hernandez comes on as a sub ...

Can't see utd selling him if they do I wouldn't b surprised to see if going to Real Madrid they have been linked with him for a long time. IF we did sign him I'd expect to see Defoe leaving.

Don't get this at all. He's a brilliant finisher but he can't hold the ball up and play up top on his own.

I would love to see him at the lane

He is a brilliant finisher, Re the hold up part do we not try and play the ball out from the back

We do but we're not Barcelona. Although Soldado isn't particularly big he is still quite strong with his back to goal and can hold the ball up.

I like Hernandez alot but he would be no different to Defoe in his ability to hold the ball up.

I really think we need to but another NO.9 type striker to cover for Soldado unless Ade stays.

He's the new Solskjær I reckon. He'll be perfectly happy sitting on their bench, coming on and banging in numerous important goals. He will also be linked with us in perpetuity.

You may want to revise that opinion when we see what the squad looks like in four days time!

The likes of Eriksen, Lamela et al will certainly address the issues of better balls being played into the box.
