I like Spence but he has never consistently played football at LB so if Udogie (who is fairly injury prone) is out for an extended period of time we have either:

a) Ben Davies who cannot play the way we require.

b) Spence who is a RB and woul be ok.

Compare that to RB, we have Porro who is obviously very good and the Spence who is a very good RB and Gray also who has played there numerous times in his young career.

In my opinion we need a proper LB to be brought in who can compete with Udogie.
I think we are fine with Spence personally and the more experience he gets at LB the better. I say this as somebody who has been very dubious about Spence in the past but who has been really impressed with him this year.

Baena, Mbuemo and someone like that Oostewolde would do the trick.

Levy ain't doing that in Jan though, even if we're in the mix for top 4...

I like Mbuemo, but isnt he better suited to play on the counter? I.e. would he really be a good fit also against park the bus teams? Only watch Brentford vs Spurs, so may obviously be wrong here.

Same thing can be said about Son, Odobert and Johnson

Purely from a profile point of view, I would love for us to have a look at Jayden Oosterwolde at Fenerbahce. Left sided centre back or left back at around 6ft 3 with pace to burn!

I think VDV is integral to how we play, and I worry about his hamstrings. Jorrel Hato at Ajax is another of a similar profile (these Dutch kids man honestly) but he would be extortionate and will want to be a starter…

Oosterwolde is still young, can learn from Micky and would have plenty of opportunity for minutes with his versatility. With Jose at Fenerbahce too, we know he has fancied Reguilon in the past and wonder if he could be involved as part of a deal…

43 apps last season, started every game this season, clearly getting experienced at this stage in his career, would represent a smart investment I feel…
A player of the Oosterwolde/Hato profile is the biggest need in January IMO.

The left side of the defence is quite threadbare, and an injury there would threaten to derail our season. Davies has been a wonderful servant to the club but he doesn’t have the attributes to be a like-for-like replacement for either VDV or Udogie.

A left-footed defender with recovery pace and ball-carrying ability, and who can slot in at both LB and LCB, would shore things up and give us a balanced squad without blocking Vuskovic’s integration next season.

Any PEX involving Reguilon surely reduces any transfer fee by a paltry sum of 50p.
At this moment in time, offering Fernerbache '25% off'', of the F1 Karting experience would make for more of an attractive financial incentive.

Mbeumo is definitely available in the summer. His contract runs out in 2026, so Brentford will have to accept a reasonable offer.

Marc Guehi is the same. I've never thought he's amazing, but he's a very competent Prem CB and the reality is, we usually lose our best players. How much longer will we keep Cuti or will Madrid etc target VDV? I really wanted us to sign VVD when he was at Southampton, even though we had Toby and Jan, as they were ageing and I think it's better to buy a replacement a year early, rather than finding yourself in the position of trying to replace a brilliant CB, when there isn't much on the market. I think sometimes you have to snag players you think are good enough to be long term first team players, even if you don't need them at the time.

I think Mitchell, Mbeumo and Guehi, though not massively inspiring, are all really solid Prem players, who would give us real squad depth and will be available soon, at reasonable prices.

I really like Mbuemo, but I'm not sure he fits what we are doing. He's a great player no doubt, but it's about finding niche fitting players for how we play. I also think we are full as far as midfielders are concerned and would need to shift players out in order to bring another in.

I agree.

Jorrell Hato for me would be a wonderful signing filing two roles adeptly allowing us to dispense of Davies' services and shifting Spence firmly as deputising for Porro on his natural right hand side and allowing Gray to blossom into his eventual position as the 6.

Vuskovic most definitely can be the natural understudy to Micky on the left side of defence and the question will really be if we loan him out again (perhaps, domestically?) or deemed good/ready enough to contribute in 2025/26.

I completely understand why people would watch Mbuemo and think he’s a very good player but I don’t get why people believe he’d be a good fit for us. He thrives in space on the counter that we just don’t get often enough for him to be any more effective than someone like Johnson. We still should be looking for a highly technical winger with great acceleration in the mould of Neto for me rather than someone like Mbuemo.

I can see why one would have doubts about Mbeumo in a less counter-attacking side because of the way Brentford plays. On the other hand, I look at his attributes, and the way he plays, and think what he does could still translate well to our side.
Whenever I see him play, I see a player who is good at finding solutions whether there's space or not.

Not that I would mind someone similar to Neto, but the ones out there that seem gettable right now are IMO likely not good enough.

For an additional winger I would presume that we would be looking at one of Mbeumo, Kubo, Marmoush, Adingra, Bakayoko. Id personally go for Marmoush who can play all 3 positions across the front line, is a goal scorer and would be a good Son replacement when needed.

Millot looks a real talent at Stuttgart as an attacking midfield option.
He was in the French Oympic team and has really come into his own recently. Only 22 and has scored 4 already this season along with a couple of assists.
Good on the ball and appears to be quite athletic.

Given the makeup of the squad I would assume if we were looking for another forward player it would another young right sided wing forward that can possible play centrally. The ideal version of that sounds difficult to do in January.

I am hugely biased being Irish-Egyptian but I would love us to at least look at Marmoush ..

Johnson, Odobert, Werner and Moore are all right footed, so I would rather we went for a winger that is Left footed, so from your list that would be Mbeumo, Kubo or Bakayoko. Personally Bakayoko tops that list for me, even tough I'm not 100% convinced by him.

Are there any other centre backs with pace like Micky? I do worry that we can’t play like we want to (eg as high up the pitch) if he’s injured. And he’s definitely going to get injured.
