I know it’s knee jerk to post this after a defeat but I don’t know where we upgrade, because it could be anyone and everyone.
would say that kulusevski, vdv porro Sarr and Solanke are the only ones I wouldn’t look to upgrade.
Not convinced by vicario, and udogie is stinking the place out at the moment.
maddison has gone off a cliff.
Bentancur is good but can we do better?
Bissouma another
Johnson just taps in but can’t beat a man.
son is aging quickly
Romero is hit and miss
Radusin is a conte style defender, not confident on the ball

werner- just no
Odobert/bergvall/gray too soon to say

so I’d say we should be looking for a

Hard to disagree with alot of that. Could squabble over a player or two but ultimately the players we have are playing for us for a reason. They aren't good enough to play for a top club so they are with us.

If I were in charge I would hope to do the following:

Jan:
Hato (to cover LB and CB)

Summer:
Lookman (can play across all front 3 positions, is in ridiculous form and 1 year left on his deal at this point)
Ricci (new number 6)
Guehi (1 year left on his deal at this point)
New backup/rotation GK

I'd love to go for Marmoush and Ederson but bigger fish will come in For them. I dont think the above is unrealistic And wouldnt cost ridiculous amounts - especially if we sell Romero. We wont do more than 1 squad position in January imo.

Youngsters need to spend 2 seasons at the club for CL, if we get CL next season we will have to make some cuts and we will have another Spence situation or two, three. Bergvall, Gray, Yang-Min won't have 2 years with us yet. Vuskovic won't either because he is loaned, so will need 3 years with us I think? Hopefully few academy kids will be ready to step up.
They can be loaned and still ultimately be club trained HG.

They can’t be loaned if they haven’t had two years with us and we want them to qualify for list B when they are under 21

Any regular championship watchers here? Sunderland are top at the moment and wondered if Cirkin could be a good option at lb. Scored a great goal on Saturday but would be interesting to see if anyone thinks he could make the step up

GK: Vicario - needs competition but not replacing.
RB: Porro - Quality we need and we have Spence - as competition.
RCB: Romero - Quality we need and Dragusin - should continue to develop into competition.
LCB: VDV - Quality we need but we don't have any competition here.
LB: Udogie - Quality we need but is young and we need the ability to bench him more at this point of his career, competition needed here.
DM: Bentancur - Returning back to the quality we need (just in time for a ban), Bissouma - provides the competition. We also have Gray coming through as another option.
CM: Sarr - is great for some games and is still young and could develop into the right quality for this role. Bergvall - is even younger and needs more time.
AM: Deki - is quality we need, Maddison is competition providing he can rediscover his form.
RW: Johnson - developing into the quality we need, but needs strong competition.
LW: Son - is ageing and it's showing, Werner - is not the quality we need.
ST: Solanke - is the quality we need, Richarlison - is not the quality we need and too injury prone.

So that's a fair bit to address. We're obviously not going to address it all in one window, but we do need to sort this out before the end of next summer. My view is:

Jan:
New LCB or LB (competition for VDV or Udogie)
New CM (someone who can command the midfield for us)
New LW (Son successor who can hit the ground running right away)

In terms of players i'd be looking at (with Brazil tinted glasses):
New LCB or LB - Murillo
New CM - Ederson
New LW - Cunha or Luiz Henrique

Summer:
New GK (competition for Vicario)
New LCB or LB (whichever one we didn't get in Jan)
New RW (depending on development of Odobert)
New ST (sell Richi and replace him)

I dont think we are far away.

Jorel Hato to replace Davies in the summer as LCB/LB cover kills 2 birds with one stone and keeps in line with the clubs policy of signing top quality youngsters. Would complete the defence unless we lost Romero/Porro to Madrid.

GK - Forster out, Whiteman Out and bring someone in on loan , no need to spend big here unless the opportunity to sign a top class youngster becomes available.

Biss/Bentancur have 1 year left on their deals in the summer and I think we need to choose one and invest big for a world class 6 in the summer. I don't have any suggestions here

January Grealish on loan in
Werner out
Try Son on the right in some games
Then reassess in summer

RW is number 1 priority in summer for me. Johnson shouldn't be starting as many games as he is.

Richy out
Openda in

I know it's not a wishlist but I think with outgoings and 4 players in, net spend shouldn't be much above 120mil in summer

Guehi is decent and although right footed looks very comfortable on the left. Contract up in June 2026

He'll have his pick of clubs and ones who will pay wages that a top player would command including pool who will be looking for a new CB.
Set your sights lower lads, our shit hole of a club ain't signing a player like him unfortunately

Give it a rest. Ffs.

Negative drivel like this makes the forum space stink. There was no need on this occasion for you to project your negativity, completely irrelevant.

How dare you. By all means attack the board but you don't say that about the club if you're a supporter.

It's irrelevant to say that a top player won't sign for us? He's good enough already to play for a top side which wants to win things which we aren't.
People thinking we could attract him are just setting themselves up for disappointment come end of a transfer window and will be the ones shouting loudest about how bad the window has been because they set their expectations too high at start. Better to acknowledge that we rarely sign an already top talent. Given his fee will reflect one year left on contract at end of season he'll command big team wages which we don't pay.

Fair "shithole" of a club was too far i accept that but just pissed off knowing that there are players who should be gettable for a club with our wealth but knowing we aren't even in contention for them.

Nusa with another brilliant performance for Norway against Slovenia. Two goals, and toying with his opponents like prime Ronaldinho. Still certain we made a massive mistake there. Would have been the perfect Son replacement.

Wasn’t it a knee issue though ? That’s why Brentford also passed ?

Yea it was a knee issue but he was back playing relatively quickly after the Brentford move fell through and then RB Leipzig signed him for a reduced fee €21m

pretty sure if he joined us he would be injured before playing a game for us considering our luck of injuries 😂😂

Although Vicario had a solid season last season, his chaotic head has taken over somewhat this season.

I'm in no way giving up on him just yet but If I was playing Championship manager and he had a number of interested parties in Italy, I'd be exploring that and knocking Liverpools door down for their (due to become, 3rd choice keeper.

Kelleher.
