Thanks for the write up - really insightful! Does seem that Quenda would be on everyone's radar next summer and would be a coup in the same way we moved for Gray. Does feel that Bardghji could be a really clear option - all makes sense other than his recovery.
If Amorim goes to Utd, which looks very likely, I’d bet a fairly large amount that they go for Quenda given they were already linked beforehand so we will probably be able to strike him off the list soon enough.

Tell them they can keep all the money from edwards and pay off porro in one go just to get him in

We need a Son competition/long term replacement. We need to remember that he consistently provides assists and has an excellent goals return.

The other existing options are nowhere near replacing him.

Odobert - he’s a kid, potential to be a very good winger but there’s very little early signs that he’ll replicate anywhere near Son’s numbers

Werner - just no

Moore - he looks like a young Grealish, bundles of promise but we’re not going to see Son numbers with Moore either and especially not any time soon.

Take Son out of the team and based on the current alternatives at ‘this moment in time’, we’re firing blanks from the left flank.

We’re in effect in the same position as last summer - no first team improvements to either wide left or right forward positions. Johnson hit a purple patch and fingers crossed he’s back in the goals again soon but as actual goal threats our wide forward options are nowhere near good enough.
Unfortunately I completely agree. The summer was neat for 2-3 years down the road, but we still desperately need more quality on each wing, at each fullback, at LCB and in central midfield.

The other big challenge is with squad places until the 26/27 season when Gray and Bergval become U21 eligible (and ultimately CT Hg). We simply don’t have room in the UEFA squad for more non CT players. Werner and Davies will roll off probably next season, which at least opens up an AT spot for Spence and one non HG slot, but we have significantly more gaps to fill than available spots.

stick my hand up at that one. There is some substance to our recruitment team. In fact, they are probably stellar and just held back by DL

He’s Milan’s best midfielder. Class player but he isn’t a DM. Or rather he isn’t particularly defensive minded so when he plays deeper he’s more of a deep lying playmaker. He’s best as a CM.
Who's the best DM we could realistically get?

Tough question tbh because there really isn’t any stand out options that are in our likely price range or available. Realistically we aren’t going to go for someone like Varela at Porto or even Baleba at Brighton, who despite being only 20 has been really impressive so far this season. My feelings is we probably just trigger Johnny Cardoso’s clause or go for Samuele Ricci at Torino even tho, similar to Ederson, he’s not really a true DM tho he has played there for Italy. A player who’s impressed me recently tho is Dário Essugo who’s on loan at Las Palmas. He’s only 19 so it’s a little too soon to judge (and Las Palmas are not having a good season at all) but I do wonder if he isn’t more of the profile we might need than someone like Johnny. One to watch over the season. Anguissa another one we might look at, he has been very good for Napoli this season and his contract runs out next summer but there is a one here extension option that they will very likely trigger. I’m sure there’s some im forgetting but the underlying point is there aren’t any clear and obvious options in a more affordable price range.

Lad from Bournemouth semenyo. He's quality. I'm not sure what position he plays exactly. He drifts around a lot. He was brilliant again today. I posted about him first game of last season when he bossed us. He reminds me of Eze the way he runs and he certainly eats up the ground quickly.

He looks similar to Kudus - built like a tank, reasonable pace, very difficult to dispossess. He tends to play on the right but drifts infield. I can see him costing similar if not more than Solanke though

Skov Olsen at Brugge looks a decent player - both scores and assists. He’s still only 24 and has been linked with some bigger clubs including the scrum. He plays right forward (same as Johnson).

Was about to suggest him. Always looks really dangerous. Could he be a Son replacement? Send Soloman and 25 mil their way.

20 year old Milos Kerkez had a really good game at LB I thought. Guy is so quick and completely locked down that left side. Made a great goal saving block and got two assists as well.
