Just out of curiosity, what positions do most think we still need to upgrade/invest in to get us to point where we are looking to seriously compete? Obviously taking into account Yang joining and players with contracts running low (Son, Davies, Forster, Regi and Werner all expiring next summer and Bentancur, Biss both expiring in 26). Would you renew any of those or move them all on?

Is the general consensus a LCB/LB, WF, DM and maybe another 10 would work or do you think more/less? Would you be happy to look at youth for any of those positions or would you hope/expect more established players in all of those roles? Obviously there is also the point of squad spaces so we would need to balance whoever comes in with exits.
A get about the pitch CM/DM

Fair play to you lads in here talking rationally about who we need to sign and sell. I'm still in that sell all the fuckers who played yesterday phase, way to soon to be civil just yet

For me the answer to the question of what we should prioritise should be seen as being in two categories:

1. Which current players, if you took them out of the team tomorrow, would we be least able to replace and maintain Ange’s football?

2. Where do we lack genuine quality in our starting XI?

For 1 it’s VDV and Vicario.
For 2 it’s our holding midfielder and our quality on the wing. Maybe left back too, given Udogie’s drop in form and lack of cover.

In the winter window I think it’s highly unlikely we’ll pay the money to convince a top club to sell a top class number 6 or winger.

So in January I think I’d focus on a rapid LCB to rotate with Micky and a quality understudy for Vicario. Address the other issues in the summer.

Son is the only player you have listed that I would currently consider keeping beyond his current contract and that is ruling with my heart instead of my head.

Personally, I think we need:
- DM who is a real leader, calms things down and organises team when things are going against us. 0 names come to mind though in all honesty.
- left footed winger that is great at one on one dribbling, can progress the ball from deep and play both wings. Bakayoko is a name that springs to mind but i'm not 100% convinced he is the required quality.
- #10 that doesn't hide when the going gets tough. Not 100% sure who and I haven't completely given up on Donley being this player either.
- LB competition for Udogie. Not back up, competition.

I'm happy for Vuskovic to be Davies replacement at LCB.

Whilst we are on the subject of DM’s, it’s curious about Wharton’s incredibly lacklustre start to this season after being lauded previously.

Wonder if he’s still on our radar? Clearly a talent and you only have to look at his opposite number on the weekend in Gravenberch who looks totally reborn under Slot and starting to fulfil his potential with Pool fans will tell you he’s been perhaps their standout player this season.

Seems like the whole Palace team are struggling to some extent. He’s a young player, dips in form will be natural at this stage of his career.

Best DMs not already snatched up by top teams are Wharton and Ederson. Id personally be targetting:

WF - Marmoush
DM - Ederson
LB/CB - Hato

Obviously not all for January but I think these 3 would really help us.

A top quality DM above everything else, spend the entire budget on it if we have to. You can say what you like about our forward options, but our problem isn't creating chances. Then it would be competition for LB. I wouldn't even be looking at the WF options until a top class DM is in.
Before the summer our 2 priorities as far as I was concerned was a ST and a DM. We should've moved heaven and earth here to get these. I got negged for suggesting this because dribbly winger as far as everyone was concerned. We were still creating chances last season so a top class ST was necessary and a top class DM to screen the back 2 with these full backs pushing so far forward as we got/get caught out so often with only having the 2 at the back. This is the core of the team get that right and build the rest around it.

Need a GK for sure

I'd move on Biss yes. Bentancur has the flexibility to play further forward, although if Ange only see's him as a DM then yeah I'd move him on as well. I think he's a good player but not the full set of attributes to be a dedicated DM.
Yeah I’d say beginning of last season we thought they were both gonna be great for us but it’s becoming apparent they aren’t though I’d lose Bissouma first.

LB/LCB - Oosterwolde
DM - Ederson or Baleba (unrealistic choice)
AM/CF - Marmoush or Mbuemo
GK - Someone homegrown like Patterson at Sunderland

I'm going to get pelters for this but I would love a Henderson/milner type player, fit all season, talks non stop, leads by example, works off the ball more than on the ball.

An experienced character is essential.

Hard to find though, I'm thinking Kimmich, Goretzka but need to be vocal.
