Kanoute was good to watch, great hold up play and good feet
Very true, and probably the best partner Defoe ever had, but after a storming start where he looked like Henry he seemingly decided that he wanted to stay away from the six yard box. For some context, Eriksen has a similar goal ratio in the league over a far larger spread and he’s our fourth most potent threat rather than one of two starting strikers.

I would love to see us go for Arp and use him as Kane's (and even the tree Llorente's) understudy. The kid just turned 18 (Jan 6th 2000) which means if we snatch him up now he'll eventually be a home grown player for us.

Iversen, Ferdinand, Rebrov, Postiga, Zamora, Kanoute, Mido, Bent, Pavlyuchenko, Soldado, Janssen, now Llorente. All promised so much more than they delivered, though some had more opportunity to succeed than others. Makes you appreciate Defoe, Keane, even simeone like Armstrong all the more.

And who can forget the mercurial Qu Bo or Edson Silva?
Iversen scored when we won the first NLD I attended, so he’s allright in my book :p

Positive on this Arp kid. Hope he signs now or in the summer.

Great. Let’s bring this kid in, destroy any confidence or rhythm he has in his game by sitting him on the bench and only playing him sporadically. Then criticise him for not banging in the few chances he has in the 5 minutes he gets at the end of matches that are already won/lost. And 12 monthes down the line we can all deem him not good enough for the prem, a flop, waste of money, scouts haven’t got a clue etc... and rinse and repeat until Harry Kane leaves/retires...

You could say the same thing about any striker that we might bring in. In reality, Harry has had a couple of lengthy injury spells and we could do with somebody who could actually score in August too (that's a joke by the way). Arp would be a great acquisition IMO. When we're geared up to play with 1 central striker, I don't see any problem with a 'like for like' type signing.

Sign a very exciting young striker, giving a backup for Kane, the ability to take Kane off once in a while, and even - (if he's that much of a mini-Kane) being able to play the two together? Sounds good to me.

I know. The point is whatever striker we bring in is gonna suffer from lack of playing time as they never will start ahead of Kane. Expecting a striker to be sharp and ready to bang in goals with only sporadic appearances is totally unrealistic.

This is why, as @tiger666 has been suggesting it, makes more sense to bring in a wing forward(like Son) who can also cover the centre forward role. That way they are guaranteed a lot more playing time and won’t be out of sorts when asked to start up front.

Fans are quick to label Janssen/Llorente as ‘shit’ and ‘not good enough’ and totally disregard that confidence and rhythm are crucial for a striker, more than any other position on the pitch.

We can keep bringing in these specialist strikers and killing their confidence through lack of playing time. Or we can be more creative and bring in a wing forward/striker and/or use Son as a back up striker
