He’s a good player. The profile suits the system as his strong suits are his finishing, line-breaking runs, powerful running/dribbling and he has a good understanding of what’s going on around him. However, he doesn’t offer defensively what he should and he’s carrying an injury.

Personally I would much rather see us pushing on Alfie or Hall this season than adding him in. It’s time we tried something different and we finally have a youth squad to match it. If Ange thinks different I’m OK with it as long as we give them good loans and don’t just block the pathway.
Think this is broadly where I am too. He's a good player, and decent potential (if he overcomes the injuries), but is he that much better than the options we already have coming through? We've already added two CMs in Gray and Bergvall, and Devine looks ready too, with Hall not far behind. Just doesn't feel necessary.

I think it's only unnecessary if we sign a 10 as well. To me it sounds more likely we won't unfortunately. Maybe Kulusevski will cover that and we go hard on a wide attacker. I do think there's a real possibility we do sign Neto and that being our last attacking signing. I hope I'm wrong or we at least sign a centre forward as well.

If this deal is true, there are obvious pros and cons

Pros:
Good young homegrown player who would seem to fit Anges style perfectly

We get rid of Lo Celso who Ange didn't seem to rate.

Villa fans generally rate him very highly, which is a positive

Cons:
Doesn't fix our attacking issues.

Adds to a midfield area where we seem to altready have a lot of depth, but ramsey may be better than what we have.

Possible injury issues. Hopefully they are not too bad or can be fixed.

So in summary, I am definitely not against this deal, but I really hope we can also sort our attacking issues out as well.
The one bit I find myself disagreeing with is that we have a lot of depth in the 8/19 midfield area. I’d describe it as we have a lot of players in these areas but apart from Sarr for periods and Maddison pre injury I don’t think we had anyone that sparkled in the 8/10 role. Bentancur no where near his past levels, Sarr faded, Kulu inconsistent, Madds outstanding then ordinary, Skipp/GLC/PEH not fancied by Ange. I really think we have volume but no players that own that midfield role by delivering consistently good performances.

While Devine has undoubted potential he didn’t pull up any trees on loan at Plymouth and struggled to make much of an impact. Think it will be another loan for him.

I think sometimes you're a victim of circumstance.
Whilst on the face of it he didn't pull up any trees, could that be because others weren't reading his runs, or not making intelligent runs for him to pick them out?
Alongside better players he has not looked out of place

Agreed.
I thought he looked very comfortable out there yesterday.

I liked Ramsey before injury. His movement is great, he times runs well and scores from midfield. Recurring toe injury is a bit of a worry but that note from the Villa fans that the original pin was done badly and now it’s been fixed is encouraging. He’d have cost a lot more than 40m and surprised we are getting as much as 21m for lo Celso with 1 year left so the deal is good.

Ramsey and Buendia were in a recovery camp in Portugal together until recently as neither were/are fully fit. They are both back I believe but still neither are ready to play. Apparently Villa go off for their US tour next week and both are expected to go so that will be more telling if ether don’t make the trip.

For what it’s worth most Villa fans think it’s a nonsense link as he’s club trained and they need CT players for CL plus if he was to be sold they wouldn’t do a part swap for him as they would want a large fee for their books. Obv they might be completely wrong but makes logical sense.
Or they rate Lo Celso!

Villa are on the verge of selling Diaby for €55-60 mil. I‘m not sure they will need to sell Ramsey after that if they even did in the first place.

I think there's a chance we are over emphasizing the use of a creative 10.

Ange's team isn't about creative players too much.

The creativity comes from the wingers and winning their 1v1s and dragging players out of position.

The creativity is more about the movement and players playing 1 touch fast football.

Perhaps Deki is seen as a good alternative for Maddison should Eze not be explored.

Meanwhile Ange may want more players who play fast and don't dawdle on the ball too long.

Maddison was doing this at times last season.

Truth is we don't really know what Ange is looking for.

The impression I got wasn't that they needed to sell him just that he was available.

Which in itself would be surprising considering they are in CL and need CT players.

Emey said this back in Jan so it would be quite the turn around.
“Jacob Ramsey is a very important player. He grew up here in the academy. His progression is clear and getting better. I want to keep him here with us. Teams maybe involved in the possibility to sign him, because he is a potentially big, big player in Aston Villa and England. I want to keep him here 100%."

Whilst I’m sure there is interest and injuries might have made them rethink I do think we shouldn’t get too attached to the idea until some reputable UK jurnos actually back up the reports.

Also for what it’s worth Villa just posted this 40 mins ago implying he’s going on the US tour

But then also signing Onana for circa £50m.

Also Villa fans do talk up Morgan Roger’s quite a bit and Buendia will also be back fit so Emery will have some squad decisions you feel which may still yield Ramsey leaving.

But we can see when Maddison was on for we looked a good attacking unit, when he was out of form we lacked any creativity. Totally unconvinced that Kulu is any sort of alternative for Madds, this view is based on hope not evidence.

Maybe there is no deal to be done here . Maybe Lo Celso doesn’t want to go to Villa . Maybe he wants to return to Spain .
I really do t think his body and mind is cut out for the premier league far to many injuries from the moment he arrived here .

think his game is better suited to the Spanish league and maybe he is holding out for a move back there .

I think his wallet is better suited to the prem though.

There is only ONE player at Villa I really, really want - and he replaced Kane in the Euros in the semis and in the final.

No; Jacob Ramsey did not play in the Euros.
