From a business stand point, this move makes a lot of sense. Player swapping to get Lo Celso gone is totally reasonable. It’s probably the best way to maximize his value at this point. Ramsey is a good player with a lot of potential, and Lange knows what he is buying. He’s also english and not on large wages, so even if it doesn’t work out we should be able to shift him.

But from a squad building perspective, I don’t see it. We don’t desperately need association trained players (we need club trained players). Our midfield needs work, but it seems like we have an abundance of players that fill that role + a bunch of youth players with big potential that also fit that role. Most of us would say we either need a more creative player or a really classy holding midfielder rather than another box crasher.

Good deals for square pegs seem like bad squad building at a crucial moment.

Being too physical doesn't to only mean srtong challenges. It's the intensity and relentless pace of the game that means constant work on and off the ball. Also a different standard of refereeing here that expects players to play through contact.
You really should watch the likes of Columbia play, it is a relentless pace with pure physicality.

What I would say is If we sell one of Bentancur, Kulu, Sarr or Biss (and move one of Bentancur or Sarr into DM) on top of all the others currently listed this suddenly becomes a lot more sensible a move. Maybe we are selling Bentancur after the summer he had. Personally I would be disappointed to write him off so quickly but maybe the business just makes sense doing the swap. The negative PR storm on top of his post injury form might have made our decision for us.

It would then allow us to bring in another playmaker and a winger alongside Ramsey.

I have a hard time seeing any of those four going. Even if we wanted to be “ruthless” with the squad, no one is going to pay us what we would want for any of those players. We’re not going to sell Bents or Deki at a loss. Ramsey isn’t really going to be competing with Biss for minutes. And Sarr is on the up - why would we sell him?

I fully believe we’ll do everything possible to get GLC and PEH moves. Skipp we’d probably move if we can sort out the club trained numbers for the EL.

That still leaves us with: Biss, Bents, Gray, Bergvall, Sarr, Deki, and Madders as “senior” players for the midfield roles (plus Devine, Donley, and Hall all looking most likely to make the jump up). When I look at that group, Jacob Ramsey does not look like the missing piece to me.

Feels like another Lamela = Gil & £££ deal to me, and that one didn’t exactly set the world alight.

Also, does Ange really want him!? Or is this on Lange? Disappointing if so, as I hoped those days were behind us.

He's plays on the move with his head up.
Yes from me.

We have too many mids that slow things down and/or play at walking pace.
We need more dynamic midfielders for Ange's system to work throughout a long season.

Ramsey has already proven he can cut it in the league.

This would be nothing like the Gil deal.

Has Ramsey recovered from the toe &foot injury ?
He seems to be injured for majority of last season missing last preseason.

Anyone know if he is training now with Villa ?

I like Ramsey and think he is a very talented young player and would be a better fit for us than Lo Celso ever was, plus he is HG so we would be further sorting out that issue.

If we sign Ramsey I can see Hjobjerg, Skipp and Bentancaur going.
Would leave us Gray, Bissouma, Sarr, Bergvall, Maddison, Kulusevski and Ramsey for 3 places in the starting line up for midfield. You have got Moore, Devine, Donley and Hall to add to that as well who have all proved capable and need to progress.

HG, plus offload GLC. Makes so much sense to me. I reckon we’ll likely sell a few others to strip things back somewhat; can see us selling kulu, biss & bents if offers are there. The hierarchy is being rebuilt and I think the on field players will be following similar moves. Only a ‘plucked out the air’ opinion, but I’ve a gut feeling that Daniel & co are willing to trust Ange & his gang. Here’s hoping
EDIT. forgot about PEH!

Oh I agree, im just wondering if there is more to it then meets the eye. I find going from Eze, Doué, Olmo and Baena to Ramsey to be quite the pivot in terms of profile. We have been told long before the window opened that we had a clear plan so I just wonder if it’s not quite a simple as it may seem from the outside.

Thing is I actually like Ramsey in that advanced 8/b2b role alongside a creative 10. (Injuries are a big issue tho) That said I would also like to see more of Kulu there as well. Point being is i actually think Ramsey would be good in our system. It’s also profile Ange clearly wants in his midfield and on paper it would make a logical fit.

My issue comes more from a place of what do we do when Maddison doesn’t play or is off form. We saw last season that our attack flatlined when Maddison was injured/off form or Kule was in the 10 role. Bringing in more dynamic wingers alongside a more aggressive b2b/advanced 8 will certainly help but we need a viable creative alternative who can unlock a defensive.

Have they proved capable yet? I also can’t see Bergvail starting any PL matches this season, although he may in some cup games
