The day we spend over £20 mill on a transfer is the day Levy is sectioned. This guy would cost far too much for us especially after Porto have sold players already.

We're a bargaining chip in his contract negotiations and little else.

So Levy has been sectioned twice!

Supposedly has a £35 million release clause. I'd be happy for us to pay that. It would mean if we went 4-3-3 you would expect our front 3 to all produce roughly 15+ goals in the league; a hell of a lot of fire power there.

Example:

Martinez - Soldado - Lamela
Sandro Eriksen Paulinho
Coentrao Verts Kaboul Walker
Lloris
ERGHMAGHERD

I would go with that but he is 27 next month. 35m is a hell of a lot. We would need sell adebayor, defoe and lennon for about 25m to get him in.

I guess the worry is yes, he's 27 and he's not proven at the top level yet. The Portuguese league isn't the strongest and you have to ask why he was plying his trade in Mexico until the age of 25. I still think he is absolute quality though but would represent a risk.

He's too much money. If he were 23/24 I'd be all for it, but at basically a year younger than Soldado, I think I would have to say 'pass.'

Do you share the aforementioned concerns about his lack of experience at top level?

Also I haven't seen more than a handful of games he's featured in, not sure how great he'd be off the left hand side.

For the sort of money banded around we could pick up a world class player, who has age on their side.

No, he's really talented. He's a completely well-rounded striker and you could make an argument that on his day he better than Soldado because of how much he brings to the table. In the Champions League he scored 3 goals in 8 matches (707 minutes) so for the most part I'd say that's a good barometer initially and you also have to account for the fact that he would eventually get used to the EPL given his physicality and general talent.

It's just that I think we should be looking for a younger striker. Martinez does have a tiny bit of experience of playing out wide as he has played there before for Colombia, but I don't think he should be utilized as a LF in my opinion.

He would get a few matches up top which would be awesome and we wouldn't experience any drop off in my production in my mind. But, it's hard to sanction a move for a guy that's going to be 27, that would command a huge fee and then to play him out of his natural position what presumably would be about 75% of the time.

Despite being left footed, I still would love Rodrigo. Or, if we're looking to spend a hefty chunk, Luis Muriel would be a fantastic purchase. He's like a young Suarez with how he can drop deep, attack from midfield and he does show advanced sense while on the field for a player that's only 22.

With Udinese out of Europe and their model to just develop players then sell for big profits; Muriel could be a big option.

Udinese have stated they want to keep him another year, but I never felt the comments were that strong.

Udinese sporting director Fabrizio Larini insists Luis Muriel isn't for sale.
Muriel was watched by Manchester City coach Angelo Gregucci on the weekend.
“Muriel is a major talent,” he told reporters. “There will be time to talk about his future, but that is not now.
“Neither Fiorentina nor Juventus have made an offer for him.
“He is still very young and has plenty of time to grow.
“Udinese want to keep him for another year – and I think for him that would be the right thing to do.”

He's so freaking good, though.

He is worth the buy out clause IMHO, he is worth the talent. That being said I don't think we necessarily spend that much on a back up striker, and I'm guessing we are looking for a younger option behind Soldado as well. Mind you if something crazy happens and he ends up coming in...I would be over the moon happy.

Do you think he has the ability to play on the left too? We've definitely got the dosh to make them an acceptable offer and he'd be perfect for our 2nd striker criteria. I'm surprised there's been no real links to him, especially as Baldini has good knowledge of Serie A.

Yeah, he's got the pace and movement off the ball to keep the width and also work into the channels like a wide forward should. I think his tendency to drop deep also bodes well for his chances to adapt to a wide forward role and the fact that he's only 22 years old.

Martinez (FC Porto), Eder (Braga), Lacina Traore (Anzhi), Georginio Wijnaldum (PSV), are top of my list on the offensive front.
