Portuguese paper Record report this Monday morning that Tottenham have made a 30 million euro bid for Porto striker Jackson Martinez.
The Spurs offer is 10 million euros short of Jackson Martinez’s release clause at Porto but the timing of the offer is considered important.
Jackson Martinez is contracted to Porto until 2016 and Tottenham hope to tempt the 26-year-old Colombian striker before he discusses a new deal with the Portuguese champions.
As a result, Andre Villas-Boas, who coached Porto just two seasons ago, hopes to lure Martinez to White Hart Lane.
Martinez was sensational for Porto during his first season in Portugal, scoring 26 goals in 30 appearances. The previous season saw him bag 20 goals for Jaguares in Mexico.
This report of a bid for Jackson Martinez comes on the same day there is speculation that Tottenham have moved for Benfica striker Rodrigo.
Spurs fans will hope, with the ongoing rumours surrounding Gareth Bale, that the north Londoners do their bidding early in a transfer window, unlike their usual style of late bids on the final day.

€30m is a shit loan of money for someone who has been scoring for fun in a weak league. I'd rather take a chance on Hooper

Did any of you see the goals he scored last season?

Weak league or not, the guy is a major talent.

Reminds me of Jimmy Floyd in his prime.

Yep, good upper body strength and powerful running.

I never saw ole Jimmy score with so many over head kicks and deft flicks though... check out 1.12 :woot:

Let's see:

Great shot - check
Can use both feet - check
Good control - check
Good at headers - check
Deadly at set pieces - check
Can take a penalty - check
Physically strong - check
Has a burst of pace when needed - check

He's pretty much a complete striker. If there is just the slightest hope of being able to sign him, I'd want us to be all over that like a fly on shit. Unfortunately, our track record with Porto is poor and they're going to want a fuckload of money. Otherwise, he looks quality, shit defence or not - he has the right attributes.

On another note - I'd hate to be a defender against Colombia - Jackson and Falcao.

And to top it off they've got Rodriguez, Cuadrado and Guarin behind them, Armero and Zuniga providing wing back support and Zapata at the back. They're like the South American version of Belgium!

Do did jardel and many others, which doesn't necessarily mean they do it anywhere else.

Wouldn't we be better just hiring the proto scouts than forking out €30m on someone who had just one season at proto? To much risk for me.

OK, now I understand the hype.

He won't get as many looks at goal in the PL and we as a team just don't get penalities given but i still reckon he'd score 20 a season for us.

Looks good but given all of his goals are from in the box, a place we rarely venture, I'm not sure we are the best match.
