Big fan of this comment from someone over at VillaTalk...

Sky Sports journos have been playing too much football manager. In what world does a player like Jack, who loves his boy good club, who’ve given him everything he has today, and thousands of adoring fans, get disillusioned because he’s not given a move to Spurs!? Ha ha, it’s nonsense.

So to summerise, they believe Sky Sources that Villa have told Grealish he's not going anywhere, but don't believe for a second that he's pissed off about it.

Probably the same person that would say Harry needs to go to Real Madrid...

I am just saying, that every move has a consequence - Villa's new owners maybe looking at the consequence of FFP as a risk they are willing to take to gain promotion.

I am not suggesting that is good or bad - just a business decision they have to make. They may look at it and say we are all in until January, and re-evaluate player sales then. Its a risk - but I suspect they know that, and are willing to take it.
Surely you can’t stick two fingers up at the FFP rules and not worry about the consequences because you hope to get promoted ? That attitude got that into their current mess.

Why can't you?

I am not saying they are not "worried" about the consequences, I am saying its possible, they feel its an acceptable risk to take. This is simple a business calculation - how confident are they in getting promoted v. how much will they have to pay out of pocket in a FFP fine.

Everyone has their own risk tolerance. Only they know how those variables play out. But, this whole notion that the only play for Villa is to avoid FFP violations, is not an accurate picture of how this could play out.

Can't blame them for that. In many ways, they used to be a comparable club to us but have fallen back tremendously over the last few years. Must be galling.
It’s amazing what can happen to a club when the exciting new owner doesn’t work out.

He isn't even good enough for our first 11 yet here we are. Ridiculous.

Are there really no players in the world, within budget, that wouldn't improve our first 11?

Probably not - with those constraints: "Within budget" "improve our first XI"

We have a small budget, and a really good team.

Ah, I see, AV has decided to put a gun to its own head and threaten to pull the trigger if we don't meet its demands.

Say what you want, but it is a strategy...

I mean the Sky germany journo could also be the person who’s wrong.

Perhaps, but he has put his neck on the line with a concrete black and white fact that can be disproved, the UK journo has merely says ‘I’ve been told’.

The uk journo has the same paymaster as Neil Ashton, the biggest piece of shit ever to sully the once fine profession of journalism.

As I understand it the sanctions for FFP breaches are discretionary, and although consistency is desirable, there is no automatic points deduction, embargo etc.. ?

Also this window is efl has apparently been working with villa on "a path to compliance" which presumably went with the temporary embargo. Path to compliance could then be argued by villa to be something that should be a longer term aim, provided that they say got in some more revenue this season etc...

I also agree that it is a big risk, but if the alternative is losing all your best players and having to recruit again with limited spend, and if this makes relegation a serious risk then the new uber rich owners (who can wear fines, legal fees) might try to push on and try to squirm their way through.

I think the point is that in normal circumstances a club would make sure they comply, but xia gambled so hard and f_ed them so bad that the new cleanskin owners might think that the rock and the hard place look pretty similar.

It’s arrogant and unwise, but it would appear that’s exactly what they’re doing.

Just heard a villa fan on the phone....
“They say he’s staying but I wouldn’t put it past Del Boy levy to pull a fast one”
Made me chuckle

But the ITK and media that followed up the Sky Sources backed it up with JG’s unhappiness stories.

Villa still not officially made a statement to say he's staying, just sky sources. That to me speaks volumes
Could still go two ways.

A) Sky Sports bullshit to add meat to the bare bones of a 24/7 news station
B) Unofficial Villa leak to bump the price. Sky would be discredited but they don’t care about that. They’ve filled a few hours and they’ll just run with their usual ‘U-turn’ line to save face.

Yep, remember WBA and all of their club statements re Saido? The silence on Villa's end speaks volumes

That was a completely ego fuelling exercise from Jeremy Pearce - he turned down very good money for a player of Berahino's profile, who hadn't actually scored that many goals for West Brom, and thought he'd go toe-to-toe with Levy to 'get one over' on him.

He completely fucked us, West Brom and Berahino - look at what happened after. Pride got the better of him and it'll probably be his legacy at West Brom.
