O'Neill was appointed in 2006, Ellis sold to Lerner in 2006. I really don't think what O'Neill spent in the short time Ellis was his chairman 12 years ago can be blamed for their current predicament.

MON and Lerner definitely set Villa’s descent in motion. They wanted to go from 6th/7th into the top 4 and massively over spent but didn’t improve. It is a slippery slope and they slid pretty quickly.

I suspect we're in pole position, but Levy is negotiating in his usual hardball fashion.

I hope Grealish is signed by the start of pre-season training because we have a lot of midfielders - Dele, Eriksen, Dier, Dembele - still involved in the WC who will then go off on their hols and thus not be in top shape for the start of our season.

I would agree. ITK has hinted everything with his camp is agreed (doubt he could legally sign without everything agreed with Villa) and maybe that is what they mean.

because my memory of the situation is that Ellis still played a massive roll with Villa for a few seasons after selling to Lerner. I know Ellis was made some president type but he was definitely not a silent one and perhaps until Lerner sold out his US team, Ellis was doing the Villa stuff. even when Ellis left, one of Villa's main gripes was Lerner never attended matches

The significance for me is that it feels so sentimental, the image itself, the fact it’s in black and white and the caption ‘good times’, it’s like he’s reminiscing because he’s about to leave.
