This is the thing. It seems Villa still have to find money from player sales:
"Both clubs have their own bargaining tools. Despite their investment, Villa still need to find around £50m in player sales to balance their financial fair play issues"
I can see this going to deadline day.
I always thought there was a loophole in FFP where the owner(s) could put money in and write if off as share capital (so it can't be repaid). This is what Abramovich did and I assume what Fulham and Wolves intend to do. Maybe Villa are considering the same.
Crazier things have happened than us reigniting this deal late on however.
The only ITK worth their salt on twitter is Paul O'KeefeI'm sure he's a decent bloke - but he definitely tries to come across on twitter as ITK
There is no such loophole. Clubs in the Championship can lose a maximum of £13m a season, averaged over three seasons if an owner injects equity but can only lose an average of £5m a season if there is no equity investment. The maximum loss is increased to £35m in respect of any season spent in the Premier League.
It's hard to get any firm figures on Villa's finances but the consensus is that they need to cut their projected losses for 2018/19 by around £45m and this is next to impossible without selling players at a profit which means they have to sell Grealish.
Thanks for the info. Grealish is surely their best bet at recouping some losses then.
Fulham/Wolves must be getting a bit ropey on FFP then, I guess it's best to have a blow out summer on promotion but both may well have to sell a star or two in coming seasons.
I'd imagine getting promoted and staying up first year would comfortably offset expenditure. Wolves Mendes connections are getting them some good deals at tidy prices.
Agreed but that are also supposedly closing in on Smalling for £25m and a potentially larger fee for Rose. If both come off that's a huge overall outlay.
Behind a paywall so can’t read the article but Times saying we are closing for around 20m. Also says we want a CM and a replacement for Llorente and Janssen

Apparently years ago Gary Jacob was an unofficial mouth piece for the club so probably still has links.
Anyway, I posted an article from the Birmingham Mail at the weekend which said a bid of plus £25 million would get him despite the comments from Bruce and the club at the weekend.
Both these things tells me there’s still something to run in this.....
Unless it’s just the papers filling space of course.
I know we had ITK saying deal off, but I can 100% see us pulling the plug on the deal because of Villa's price, only for Villa to panic and realize they need to sell him and come back @ a reduced price.
After what you mentioned it goes off on other clubs. Though under Crystal Palace it does mention they are confident of retaining Zaha, I'll post that bit under his thread.Behind a paywall so can’t read the article but Times saying we are closing for around 20m. The same article says that Palace "are confident they have won the battle to keep Wilfred Zaha"After what you mentioned it goes off on other clubs. Though under Crystal Palace it does mention they are confident of retaining Zaha, I'll post that bit under his thread.

"Tottenham Hotspur are in advanced talks to sign Jack Grealish and are set to lodge an offer thought to be about £20 million for the 22-year-old.
The Aston Villa midfielder has indicated that he would like to join Spurs although Villa are pushing for a better price. Grealish was unable to help Villa to promotion to the Premier League and has two years left on his contract.
Tottenham have not made a signing this summer and want to recruit a defensive midfielder, with Mousa Dembélé likely to leave. The club also want a support striker for Harry Kane and are trying to offload Vincent Janssen and Fernando Llorente."
Yeah shared that bit in the Zaha thread so this one doesn't get off topicThe same article says that Palace "are confident they have won the battle to keep Wilfred Zaha"
