I'm sorry but this "failing to press" is absolute nonsense

If ange tells him to press he will press. Pressing doesn't make up for pure ability, talent, vision etc. His header to assist for Kane was brilliant and is an example of this.

If you think he looks out of shape then he can work on his fitness.

Feels like some of you are looking for reasons cause you just don't like him as a person.
What? There’s no way he headed that for Kane. He was just putting it back into the mixer.

How come he would need to work on his fitness in the first place? Also what evidence is there he would press if instructed too?
I watched him at Peterborough for best part of a season and he always pressed then.
Ran the channels, bullied defenders etc as you'd expect anyone to at that level.

Don't know if he's gone full Billy Big Balls after a season or two in the Prem and stopped this part of his game but he certainly has it in his locker.

Think it’s a combination of he is 28. Pressing is a younger mans game. Different level of football and fitness levels in the PL to press at full intensity. And Brentford are not a pressing side in general

He’s an v effective striker

the debate is whether he would work in Anges set up. I suspect Ange wants more from his No 9

Richarlison is 27 and he presses regardless of club or country. I think it's just a characteristic of a player. Although to be fair Kane wasn't a great presser either, after his injuries mounted up he seemed to press less. It's just I think in the system we use under Ange it's better to have a forward who presses well. I'm more concerned about his character though. Definitely one to consider late on the window but hopefully we get a better option before then. Ultimately it then comes down to Ange speaking with him and making a judgement call as players can be different in front of a camera to how they are in the locker room.

Pressing or not, if I had to guess, I reckon the best season he'll ever have is behind him. He's looking heavy IMO.

Think we can do better

Yeah that's all it is at this point. Feels very strange and has done for a while.

Anyway, we wont sign him I wouldnt have thought. We seem to be filling the HG spots we need to in other areas so its all a bit moot.

Apparently Brentford have signed a striker from Brugge? I think that's indicative that he's probably off this window.

Brentford certainly want to shift him, I mean you can't keep a player who said f Brentford in front of the cameras.

I don't think they'll get that much for him though, unless somebody gets desperate.

I think it's one we'll be keeping an eye on, but expect this one could go right to wire (with any club that wants him).

I'd also be surprised if he goes for over 40m.

I don't see anyone taking the risk on him unless it's a really good price and I don't think he'll get a big step up. At best it will be a mid table club.

I think it’ll go the same way as Raya and he’ll sign a new contract with Brentford and go out on loan with an option or maybe even Obligation. Just too many red flags for most clubs to take the risk

I agree this is key and I'm not sure he would be Ange's Plan A.
But, for me, Toney is one of the best hold up forwards around and there is a place for that type of forward in any squad.
Whether it's seeing a game out, chasing a game, or the odd game where we are going to get heavily pressed and need an outlet.
He's also a Premiership hardened rotation option if Richy is injured or needs resting.

Don't get me wrong, I'd rather one of the £100 million options (which I think will be too expensive for this transfer window) out there but I believe we need a second striker and if he's available for something like £30 million, and Reggie going the other way, he'd be worth it.

This also assumes none of our youngsters such as Veliz, Scarlett, Parrott or Lankshear are seen as good enough to play in the Prem yet as they would be my first priority if we're not buying an expensive first choice striker.

I think the numerous interviews where he has come out and basically said brentford are too shit for him and he needs a big club are more indicative lol.

As a player he is not a bad shout at all for what we need and will be a decent price and he has 2/3 good years in him. Buy i genuinely dont think i could bring myself to like him at all even if he did sign. He just comes across as a right bellend. All the players we have signed since last summer, vdv, bergvall, dragu, werner, archie, all seem like top lads who would never unsettle the dressing room.

This sounds ideal if we're keeping our powder dry for a year or so in terms of long term cf options. Richie and Toney for a season with more quality to supply them would be excellent imo
