I predict we'll sign him very soon

I can't see it happening ahead of the Euros - and my guess is there are other players we'd much rather have as strikers

our PR team will make us love him

He'll need more than good PR to make me think he's anything more than a good (but not great) striker, and barely an improvement in Richarlison

he'll go on to be top scorer next season

No he won't

the media will say, at £45m, he was the bargain of the summer.

Very much doubt it

He'd do fine. Possibly even quite well given the chances we create. But he's not going to improve us that much IMO

Not massively keen but as rotation with Richy it make sense. He would definitely be guaranteed to get 12-15 league goals through the season. With Richy getting around the same it would improve us.
This is exactly where i'm at with this possible transfer (or any another late twenties, proven 15 goal a season type we may be able to purchase).

I would much rather the club have two seasoned 12-15 goal strikers who can constantly be rotated which would enable us to keep Son on the left, than sell Richy and pin all our hopes on some very expensive young foreign player who will need to adapt to the league and who we will probably end up rotating with Son.

Given our current crop of youngsters, especially the front players, i'd be inclined to buy a cheaper shorter term option like Toney, and see where the kinds are at in a year or two's time.

Football is a fickle game. The moment he started scoring goals for us, his character would be forgotten about.
Would be weird if we just went on about his negative traits while
playing for us.

My analysis of him is he’s a decent striker but hasn’t shown enough for us to buy him to lead the line for us. His gambling ban is a worry and his personality doesn’t come across well though I accept that I don’t actually know him so won’t say that makes him a player we shouldn’t buy.

But regardless of my opinion on him now he’s nothing more than a reported target, I would support him if he signed for us.

How the fuck that makes me fickle is anyone’s guess.

Use of fickle is the same as hypocrite, most using it don’t appear to know what it means.

I dont want him, I think he's disrespected his club on a few occasions and combine that with his off the field issues. No thank you, but a truer statement has never been said, as soon as he starts scoring goals, the fans will love him.

True.

But he is living on the edge with the baggage he brings - as soon as the goals dry up, even for a short-spell, knives would be out.

I don't want him - but I'll admit if he signs, I'd support him, as I do all Spur players unless/until they disrespect the club.

And, I suppose that if we sign him, he will have talked to Ange, and if Ange can live with his baggage, no reason I can't.

Why shouldn't we support a player doing well for us?

I'd be quite happy with him. He's one of those forwards that defenders just hate playing against, even if he isnt scoring. Proven at this level.

What is the demonstration of this? Brentford hardly went through the gears when he turned back up. He has had a single good season, is a weapons grade prick, and potential issues outside of football that could impact his availability.

Sits very much in the “fuck that” pile of signings for me

Yep, can't say i like the idea of him as a person, but can see the appeal as a player. Let's not forget Maddison had made a few choice comments about Spurs/Spurs players before he joined yet has seemingly grown up and genuinely appears to be a good bloke.

Exactly.

At this stage I'm only giving my opinion on a player on the bits I've seen and read. I don't understand why anyone thinks I wouldn't support him if he joined, or even more that I'd be fickle for doing so.

I'd be surprised if Ange wanted him tbh. Unless all the rhetoric about character and unity when he came in was PR BS, heaven forefend.

If the club do sign him which I personally hugely doubt them they will be doing background checks and having extensive talks with and about him at a level way beyond we would know about so I see no reason to worry if we do decide to go for it.

I just happen to think we will look abroad for a striker as it would cost less in wages at least.

It's far too early for me to come round to the idea that getting Toney is a good idea.
Near the end of the window I may come round to it but that will be a shame, if I'm honest.
