Lets hope he can get back to the form he showed in the first part of last season before his injury.
He'll have to do better than that. He did okay for England but all he did for us (apart from fluking a goal from a free kick) was run into blind alleys and shoot into row z. Unimpressed.

Make or break season for him in the sense that it'll determine whether he'll be a top 6 player or a mid to lower level EPL player.

Gotta say I think he is over hyped. Unless he can improve on his intelligence on the field. Still time to turn into a great player though...

Agreed. But that's still more than Lennon did all season!

I think he needs to be heavily coached. He is undoubtedly a talent but he is just too raw at current to be starting for Spurs. I think if Porch and the coaches can really put some traditional coaching into him (seems absent in the days of buying ready made players) we could have a dangerous winger on our hands. But...last year he attracted attention from media/non-spurs supporters who were excited by his play but perhaps lacked the realisation of his over shooting and general ineffectiveness that spurs fans noticed.

However, good luck to the lad, I really hope we can turn him into a quality LW. (His better spot IMO)

Possibly the most overrated player of recent times... The England caps didn't help him at all imo. That's not to say he doesn't have the potential. His decision making is where his problem lies and hopefully Poch can help him with that. The most infuriating thing I found with him wasn't his constant cutting in from the right and shooting but the cutting in and shooting with his weaker foot when he switched to the left side. Drove me mad and was a massive indicator of his attitude... If he just beat his man down the left and put in a decent cross I'd be happy. He has to work on this imo.

...so many potential. If only he plays without arrogance and is nice to everybody but never dives he can become top 6 player.

I think we need his swagger and restlessness, for England I think he was very Influencial for to long players had hidden Townsend came a long and demanded the ball kept running at the opposition he really brought a mentality to England and showed how to enjoy playing for England.

Agree he needs to make better decisions and a better final ball but I like him as a character.

Having only just broken through last season he still has much to learn. At 22 years old, 23 next week, he is still young and won't reach his peak for another 3 or 4 years. Provided he is prepared to listen and take advice then he could well become a key player for club and country. He did seem to reduce the scatter gun shooting after the other players reportedly started having a go at him over it, in a friendly way. If true then the signs are good that he will listen.

His pattern of play for us - i.e. constantly cutting inside - could have been due to the sort of instructions he was getting at the time? However he was very direct - playing down the wing and crossing - for England most of the time last season.
If he gets back to playing that way we could have a starter on the left-side.

Same raw talent as Bale - before Bale really knuckled down to it.
If he focuses on his strengths - direct running (his one strength!) and improving his weaknesses; learning to cross the ball at pace and with accuracy and final ball choice - then he could be an asset.
But from what I've seen to date it is a big IF.
He needs some serious coaching - and some serious attitude to become a decent player.
Rumour was he was farmed out on loan pretty often due to a very arrogant attitude - he has to grow up if he wants success.

I'm a little confused by these comments. He's worked hard to be one of the few players who have gone out on loan, made the first team and make a difference. The boy glides past players like they aren't there, his final ball and decision making aren't brilliant but we weren't scoring any goals last year so he was trying to do it himself. With a little more coaching to make decisions he could be an asset to the club. Like Liverpools Stirling...

Needs to play with his head up. I would wire him up with a machine that the coaches could give him a small electric shock every time he runs down a blind alley. ;)

Maybe poch can say "pass the fucking ball once in a while" to him in spanish or some thing because english hasn't been getting through to him so far.
