Anyone seen much of this guy?? Seems he has only had one full season but stats wise it looks like it was a decent one! It being Malaga too I would imagine he would be reasonably priced....

For those that are confused this thread is about the Malaga player Isco.

I've only seen him play for Spain at youth level including for the U23s at the Olympics. Can't say I was particularly impressed.

What type of player is he, as I havent seen anything of him?

Creative midfield player, can't profess to have watched him live but when the whole Malaga fiasco blew up I watched extended YouTube clips, pretty impressive but subject to the usual provisos.

Excellent player. Don't judge on his Olympics performances. Would be delighted if we pulled this one off.

As good as any for a first time post. I have seen quite a bit of Isco and albeit he is clearly very talented, I have a hard time seeing where he'd fit into AVB's midfield triad. He plays quite far up in the field and unless AVB has changed tactics since his Porto days - where all three central midfielders rotated positions and thusly had to be at least somewhat competent in both attacking and defensive duty - I can see him struggle. To be honest, I have the same lingering doubts about VdV.

Notwithstanding, Isco is the type of player we should go after, (young, talented, ambitious), and Malaga are selling their players right and left due to financial problems so might be worth a punt if reasonable fee.

A young (20 yr) spanish Nasri/Hazard (in football terms)

He would be a great signing imo. Potentially as good as Eden Hazard, but a lot cheaper.

He could play on either wing, or in Rafa's position. He won't be a starter, that's for sure

He could play as part of the 3 man midfield, behind the striker or even as the left forward.

I thought so too. But I honestly don't know enough about AVB's tactical philosophy to know whether he'd be willing to put a "playmaker" at one of the wingers/inside forward positions. At Porto he wanted either wingers (Varela) or inside forwards (Hulk). At Chelsea, on the other hand, he did play Mata on the left - who is more in the VdV/Isco mould. If that was out of necessity or not I have no idea. I guess we'll see how he decides to utilize VdV this season...

For under 10m it would be a steal.

The issue is we have Gylfi and VDV for his position. I'm not sure how he would fare playing deeper or on the wing (as he's not a traditional winger)

Still I genuinely believe he is better than Mata was at 20, a lot better actually. I think he's got loads of potential and if we could get him for such a small fee it would be a masterstroke.

I wouldn't worry about that in all honesty. He played in a very fluid attacking three behind the striker last season.

If we can sign him cheap, he can stay as a back up and if he proves he can do it, Levy can then make a tidy profit on VDV.

There's a few of us who have wondered why we weren't after him and some others from Malaga, especially considering the fire sale and the fact that these boys made the UCL. We have a owner obsessed with Llorente and a coach obsessed with Moutinho, which are both good players, but why we are not considering alternatives such as this is baffling.

If the obsessions become reality, well, I wouldn't be complaining!

Seriously though, let's get in amongst it for this kid.

As for where he would fit, I hope AVB has more than one system in his locker.

Slightly off topic, but who else is left at Malaga who we definitely need now (eg strikers, Modric replacement) and as second list those who we might need (eg goalkeeper, right winger/midfield/striker etc) or even youth players such as defenders and strikers where we are slightly light in the conveyor belt going to fiest team.
