With the announcement that Wilson Palacios has finally joined Tottenham, I thought I would ask Our good friend worbo at Vital Wigan for an inside track on our new superstar..

Firstly £14 million is a lot of money, who got the best deal Spurs or Wigan?

Definitely Spurs, you will sell him to Man Utd in 18 months for £25 million, no seriously you are getting one hell of a player and in these days of crazy transfer fees you are getting a good deal, mind you we didn`t too badly paying £1 million last year, Birmingham had first option but McLeish didn`t rate him, he can spot a player that fellow

What are his strengths and weaknesses?

It is easier to tell you about his weakness, goals or lack of them, Wilson hasn`t scored for us, close on a couple of occasions and not close on a lot more, that is one area that definitely needs to be improved.

Strengths, well I believe you are in for a treat, he is simply awesome, doesn`t stop running from start to finish, he tackles, dribbles has a range of passing, great vision, pace is good and his enthusiasm for the game is immeasurable, like I say you are in for a treat.

From what you have seen of Spurs, do you see him fitting in and which type of CM partner compliments him better?

He will fit in don`t worry, Wilson is all action and is a box to box player so he will need a disciplined defensive type alongside him, Lee Cattermole is the perfect foil but you aint having him as well.

Are there any funny stories or rumours we should know about??

Wilson`s 15 year old brother was kidnapped over a year ago and he sends payments to the kidnappers, the Latics were planning to get the rest of his family to the UK to give them a safe haven, to think he has played to the level he has with all this going on is testament to his talents.

Hondurans are known as catrachos, Google to find out why, you will have your site invaded by catrachos with the signing of Wilson or as they call him 'El Mago` the magician, he is a national hero and they like to say Go Catracho!

I have a feeling that Steve Bruce is going to buy two or three players with this money and make you a better team. What nuggets do you see coming in, if any?

We have been linked with Stephen Hunt from Reading, not one for me to be honest, and there has been talk of Jimmy Bullard coming back but I can see our chairman Dave Whelan sticking the money in the bank and telling Bruce to wait until summer, I think the extent of his ambition is to avoid relegation which is very frustrating for the fans.

Just like to finish by saying you have got yourselves an exceptional player and all the Latics fans I have spoken to are gutted that he has left, good luck Wilson, go catracho...

Hopefully he is a bit like Essien in the respect, that he is able to play the box-to-box all action role if there is a holding player behind him, but equally is able to play a holding role if asked.

Palacios is Zokora plus passing ability?

Plus wider passing range. Zoko's short-range passing accuracy is as good as any—it's when he tries something more exotic that things go wrong (although in fairness he's pulled off several cracking long passes). He's also a stronger tackler.

(This from what little I've seen.)

I hope this is not another square peg for a round hole. I mustt admit, I know little of Palacios, other than watching him against us the other week. There he looked strong and combative, but I can't recall much more.

zokora or palacios? really difficult. it is so hard to choose between the two, they are both really really good players. They both can pass the ball really well, can time a tackle to perfection and can drive a midfield forward with strength and ability... oh wait that is just palacios...

... the only thing they have in common is they both cant score

Zokora can pass?

Over a short range, his passing is excellent. It's the 'time a tackle to perfection' bit I have a problem with.

If all that is accurate, and I have no reason to believe it isn't, then surely we need another midfielder to play with him?

JJ, Zokora, Modric and Hudd aren't defensive midfielders so wouldn't work. The only player I'd say is a defensive midfielder in our squad is O'Hara and Harry seems reluctant to play him in the middle.

I think Palacios will be a good signing, but if he needs a disciplined DM next to him then we need to go out and spend more money.

I thought that this guy was our DM, or at least was bought for that role. Now it seems he is the type of player that JJ purports to be. One of those two will need to redefine their funstion.

Appiah anyone?

I dont see much problem with Palacios and Modric tbh. Both are hard workers and will get back to defend. It will depend largely on the opposition though. We can always play both and add Jenas or Zokora in a 5 man midfield if we need to battle in midfield.

If Wilson really needs to play next to a disciplined defensive midfielder, that clearly will not be Modric and it seems a waste to play them together anyway because that will require Modric to take on more defensive responsibilities or rather it will be a complete waste to play Wilson as a defensive midfielder as it will take away a large portion of his game and qualities.

With that in mind, I would seriously consider playing the following midfield (left to right):

Modric....Zokora/Jenas....Wilson....Lennon/Bentley

Modric is such an intelligent player that he can play anywhere and will always find space. With one of Bale or BAE overlapping, Modric can come inside on his right foot like Pires used to do for the Gooners.

Zokora or Jenas are both able to play a disciplined defensive midfield role, while considering Modric is on the left it might be an idea to have Bentley on the right as having both Modric and Lennon on the wings may take out the entire crossing aspect from our game (I'm not counting getting to the byline and smashing it across the 6-yard line as a cross - plus I'm sure Modric can do that on the left anyway).

We could play that way. Harry used Kranjkaar infield from the left at Pompey. I'm not 100% convinced Ekotto is solid enough at left back and Bale certainly isn't so i think we'd need a new left back.

So reading between the lines this guy will replace Modric when we cash in on him in the Summer .
