I know this forum got over excited with the comings and goings this summer but for me it ripped the heart out of the club. We need players with identity - those that have been there through good and bad times. Huddlestone, Livermore, Parker, Caulker & Bale all leaving with long serving BAE mean't the soul of dressing room had gone. These guys may not be world beaters but (excluding BAE & Bale) are English and understand what playing for Spurs means. Taking them out of the dressing room and replacing them with 100% foreigners leaves to coherence and continuity of the dressing room spirit decimated.
We need to find our soul. I saw a much more cohesive team fighting for the shirt on Sunday. Shame they can't play with that desire every week.
You didn't see a team with the aforementioned players getting battered 6-0, 0-5, 4-0, 1-5 and 0-3. Just didn't happen.
The same thing happened with Ramos. I always thought AVB was the new Ramos and unfortunately I was right.
Now Defoe has gone meaning another English player out. Shame we haven't got Harry to right the wrongs and bring all the old players back (like he did last time).

I am not sure I agree with every word of that, but we certainly miss Parker as a leader on the pitch, and Livermore and Caulker were the players most likely to step up into that role. Neither I think fitted AVB's idea of a good player - one who does as he is told. Livermore I know fumed at AVB's safety first tactics, while according to Sherwood, Caulker is a bit of a loose cannon - for which he loves him. I get the impression Tim would sooner have players who have their say than ones who sit there quietly nodding.

At the end of the first half yesterday, I was feeling the equivalent of considering how best to dump a beautiful amazing girlfriend with massive tits.

At full time, I was the equivalent of forgetting all the bad times and having hot passionate sex with said beautiful amazing girlfriend with massive tits. It's not so bad after all.

(I hope it lasts).

Well, not in a Spurs shirt. Maybe I'm kinda there with Sandro but it's all still a bit new and it's been very on again off again.

Eriksen I really thought I could love like I loved Rafa. But something's just not right.

I've pretty much always got by by always having one player I absolutely love (sometimes for no reason): Bale, King, Rafa, Modric, Steed, Berbatov, Keane, Ginola, Poyet (seriously loved Super Gus). Or a manager like Hoddle or Martin Jol.

But I don't have one. And given my lack of anything remotely close to like for our manager from Borehamwood who isn't any good, I'm feeling a massive disconnect.

So much so I'm genuinely considering my ST status - I know that some people will say "good, that'll get real fans in that'll sing". Trust me, where I sit, I get frowned at for singing and daring to say anything positive.

What do you lot feel? Any flames held?

I could have written this exact same opening post, right down to contemplating whether or not to keep my ST :( .

We're the same generation of Spurs fan too so even the players you name are the same for me (though I might not have Gus, and would probably have included Robinson).

Just no affinity with anyone or anything at the club right now.

if we look to play good, incisive passing football on the ground, and eschew balls being blasted around in the air (and we have the players to, with the likes of Vertonghen, Bentaleb, Eriksen, Soldado, Lamela, Paulinho, if utilized correctly) then I can see lots of love going their way.

Fuck! How could I forget Robbo?

Eriksen could get there. He just needs to really let go if he scores against someone. Like Siggy did yesterday.

Proper man love for Sandro. Little bit of man love for Lloris, though he reminds me of 'The Child Catcher' from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, for some reason o_O.

I'll also admit to having a touch of man love for our young German player who is currently on loan at Fulham. It's his puppy like enthusiasm, the way he is always quick to point out his appreciation for the support the THFC faithful have given him since the day he came into the club, and the fact that his goal celebrations are as 'genuine' as VDV's used to be, ie you can tell he knows what it means to us supporters, so he fully embraces it = It's as though I'm contractually obliged to love him. I hope he's around for years to come.

I love Sandro, Kaboul, Eriksen, Soldado, Lamela and Walker.

Sandro and Walker because they both add humor to the club and seem like they genuinely love the club. Not to mention, Sandro is also a beast.

Kaboul because he is such a class defender, makes our back 4 alot better and want to see him do well and stay healthy so badly after all he's been through and all we've endured between the King injuries and the Kaboul injuries.

Soldado and Lamela because I think the quality is so clearly there but situations have hindered their successes here and so they are on the receiving end of unfair vitriol by fans on here.

I love Sandro for the character that he is, I only wish he was less injury prone as he is immense when on his game.

Eriksen and Lamela I have admired for a while now and really hope they will become talismans for us.

Started liking Sandro after I saw him on Spurs official YouTube. That man is a gem.

It's a decent list of present guys I love - Hugo, Walker, Sandro, Gylfi, Eriksen, Soldado.
And add Livermore who is loan and possibly Holtby.

I know what you mean.

I don't think we have any real personalities in the team, bar Dawson. I think Kaboul is probably the next best thing.

Rafa VDV is a great example. I just remember his celebrations when he scored against the Goons, always fingers to his lips to their fans! They properly hated him and I liked that. We certainly could do with a bit of that now.

There are a lot of new players though and they are young.

Who do I see potentially becoming that sort of player?

I reckon Walker, Sandro, Soldado and Holtby show the most character and promise in that department.

I love Soldado. I pretty much love Eriksen, but he's still a baby. I can see Chiriches developing into some manlove too.

I find it difficult to warm to someone who admitted they were hoping to use Spurs as a stepping stone to Chelsea, before even kicking a ball for us.

Small addendum - I believe it was his agent speaking on his behalf. Nevertheless, the comments were disgusting.

AVB's reaction was spot on:

"Obviously the comments are completely disproportionate and out of reality," said Spurs boss Villas-Boas.

"I have spoken to the player, told the player to speak to the agent and we have acted accordingly.

"We consider ourselves a big club. We're not a stepping stone to anybody

They wear the shirt. I love them.

So if Sol ****bell came out of retirement, signed for Spurs, then spent every moment on the pitch deliberately playing badly and mocking the fans, you'd love him because he wears the shirt?

I think that in this day and age it is difficult to feel much emotion for particular players just because they happen to be picking up a pay cheque at the club we support. I want to see commitment and passion from a player before I can really start to care about them.

I feel more love for Soldado every week. The way he fell to his knees, arms raised when Siggy's strike went in on Sunday - the man cares. Properly cares. Like Rafa did.

I've noticed Lamela do the same. My favourite moment this season was when Lamela set up Paulinho for the winner in the last second against Cardiff - Lamela's reaction was brilliant, so pleased to have helped get the winner, and Soldado ran straight to him and gave him a massive hug, then they joined the huge team bundle on Paulinho being led by Holtby.

In fact that game was almost a watershed moment - we had absolutely battered Cardiff and Marshall had somehow kept us out, but when Lamela sets up Paulinho for a backheel winner in stoppage time - I thought we were on the verge of seriously coming good and moving on to amazing things.

Then AVB decided to drop everyone. Oh well.

Still, Soldado, Lamela, Holtby. Those guys have the potential to be loved. They give a shit. And they're good.
