As one decade closes and another one dawns, it’s time for a poll to see how optimistic SC is for Tottenham over the next ten years. There are six choices, ranging from the incredibly optimistic through to the most pessimistic. All you have to do is vote for the phrase that most closely aligns with your outlook and, if you care so to do, provide your reasoning below.

In 2010 we qualified for the champions league for the first time. So we are definitely in a better position now than at the start of the last decade.

Since then we now have a new stadium, new training ground and a relatively consistent top 4 level performance as well as being respected across Europe now I think. As we always say we just need the next step to winning something. I'm confident we can do that in the next few years. It's the hope that kills you!

Infrastructure and brand of the club has most certianly improved since 2010 when we were first in the CL.

I guess the question is whether as a club we have the apetite to now do it on the pitch and use the investment to do so.

Just been watching the Ajax Spurs thing again (I do it every night because im sad) and made me think whether we would perhaps int he next few years do what Liverpool have done? I doubt it and feel we have missed the boat to actually take those steps forward.

Im hopeful rather than optimistic...

This will be the decade we win the FA Cup. I can’t believe we’ll go another ten years without winning it. It’s a scandal we haven’t won it since 1991 what with our record in the competition up until then.

We're heading in one direction and have been steadily improving on and off the pitch so chances are we're gonna have a very good decade.

Massively optimistic. Since the Prem began, this is the best time to be a Tottenham fan

As mentioned above, in the last ten years we’ve built a new training ground, new stadium, become champions league regulars and almost won the fucking thing. Rewind back to December 31st 2009 and and predict all that and you’d be laughed at.

It’s hard to predict what will happen over the course of ten years in football but it think we’ll win more than one trophy and win the league over the next decade

Not super optimistic!

Son can’t make the team of the decade but Eric Dier can?

Me thinks someone is tailoring this to suit their argument...

Not even taking in to account that Tottenham team of the decade doesn’t include Gareth Bale or Luka Modric?
Must try harder?

I'm a Spurs fan, what do you think? I'm ready for the usual cycle of overplayed optimism followed by the familiar crushing disappointment, punctuated with moments of absolute quality and bonkers shithousery.

Time is a flat circle. All things remain. Next year is the one.

Think we've bollocksed it tbh. Should have won the EL and PL in 2016. Could arguably have won a PL in 2017 and should have won the FA cup in 2018. Should have won the CL last season.

Nearly all the key players have either left/want to leave/declined and the revolutionary manager has gone.

We weren't brave enough in the market and we're never going to be. José will struggle with what we've got, have a sulk when he's not given the means to sign who he wants, and leave in a funk. At that point we'll have been left long behind the top 6.

Happy new year everyone!

As long as the club infrastructure remains good the club will always compete, owners have pushed the club to where we are now so on the law of averages we're gonna be successful at some point, I'm excited.

Exactly. Looking at this bar chart we have improved steadily over the last 20 years and now are a consistent champions league qualifying team. It’s up to us now whether we want to push on and be a title challenger or just do an Arsenal for the next 20 years and be content with champions league qualification (something not to be sniffed at, but I think the fan base as a whole wants more than just that).

Think I peaked on the optimism front in this last decade. Feels like we’re on a decline. Having flirted with the league and Champions League is a League Cup going to satisfy the hunger anymore? It’s not all about us getting better. It’s ‘are there still other better teams getting better?’ and scooping up all the major silverware.

I sincerely hope I’m wrong, but I’m feeling slightly pessimistic. We had our shot at glory but not strengthening the squad for so many windows has left us with an aged and unbalanced squad.

Painful rebuild coming up, until that’s done we’ll be in a bit of a decline. Can’t see us challenging for titles for some time, we’ll begin the 20’s by fighting for top 5 for quite some time.

We're having a dip in performance this season, but our starting platform to build from is the highest it's ever been (in the PL era anyway). It's not like we're trying to get out of mid table and put a few Europa League qualifications together; we're a lot better than that these days.

That said, improvements have to be made, especially in recruitment. A lot of our success came when we spotted talent for low prices; that approach seems to have dried up.

And not using the January TW to give us a boost for the second half of the season, is criminal.

However, all in all, I'm pretty confident that we'll continue to grow and probably end up winning something in the 2020s.

I do wonder whether we'll have to do what Liverpool did and sell one of our best players for a ridiculous amount of money, and bring in 2 or 3 quality players.

That said, I don't really trust our recruiters so we'd probably balls it up

Short term pessimism is tempered by long term optimism.

We have an exceptional infrastructure, growing global presence and a significant fan base. We’re ripe for investment from a wealthy company looking to raise their profile by creating a football powerhouse. Equally, if this is too fantastical, Enic will not want to see us slip beyond the top four for a sustained amount of time. By building one of the world’s greatest stadiums, they’ve essentially committed themselves to seeing us become a top four club with aspirations to mount title challenges when opportunities and circumstances enable this to happen.

Of course, this is Tottenham we’re taking about so any absurd outcome is possible

Reasonably optimistic as the stadium is all done and we should start seeing some much overdue squad investment. If not, Spurs will continue to be the pretenders whilst liverpool etc remain light years ahead on the pitch.

Success wont come this season though, not the way we have been playing at times.
