Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink has revealed how Roman Pavlyuchenko is developing into a top star with London rivals Tottenham.

The £13.8m striker lines up against Manchester United in the Carling Cup final looking to add to his nine goals in seven cup appearances for Spurs.

Hiddink, who managers the hitman for the Russian national team, paid tribute to Pavlyuchenko for turning round his life and raising his game.

Hiddink said: "I started to respect Pavlyuchenko more and more during our period together in the national team and his decision to go to one of the toughest leagues in the world.

"He took a decision to go to England. I did not expect that because he was well known in Russia and had a good life — life in Moscow is perfect for those guys."

He added in the News of the World: "I had a direct, open fight with him. I told him: 'Hey, you have this big talent, but you only use a small amount of your talent' — and he responded by going to the Premier League.

"After the decision I started to respect him more. He is now growing in being a professional."

good to see that a manager of such calibre believes in pav he just needs to convert his cup form in to league form now.

i remember that hiddink criticized pav earlier during their euro campaign as being lazy and unfit, but he responded by dropping a lot of weight and got into shape by the time of the tournament - i guess he really does need a good boot now and then, i don't think we've seen anywhere near what he can do yet!

i like the idea of Joe Jordan being his mentor, toughen him up and won't stand for any half hearted performances

for pav to improve he must 'hench' up a bit i want to see him come in to next season bigger and stronger same goes for modric he needs to stop huddlestone nicking his lunch and man up a bit, then will those 2 players succeed in the prem if the do not do these things in particular then they will not do as well as they can potentially do.
