Quality player but not quite sure we need to add more to this squad in midfield. Holtby, Eriksen and Carroll provide plenty of options

We could if we loaned out Carroll. Personally I think we're looking to do:

Sandro (Capoue)
Paulinho (Dembele) Hernanes (Holtby)
Lamela (Townsend)-------------------------------------Eriksen (Chadli)
Soldado (New CF/Defoe)
If we got Hernanes or another CM then IMO Sig and Lennon will leave and Carroll would be loaned out. That'd leave 2 players in every position.

Eriksen is wasted on the left of a 4-3-3 IMO, much better behind the striker.

That's where he'd be primarily, he'd naturally drift inside and look to slip passes into Soldado so he'll be more or less central. I'd say it would be similar to Mata's role for AVB's Chelsea except on the opposite side.

I don't know, the more I think about it (considering Eriksen is done), the more it doesn't make sense (seems like overkill).
On the other hand, the Griezmann (or similar Wide Forward, like Muniain) rumour begins to make more and more sense to me personally.
Simply because I don't see Eriksen playing LWF by default. I mean he can if necessary, but that's not his natural spot.
I do however see AVB starting someone like Griezmann at LWF (and Chadli being the backup). That would complete our attacking trident in a 4-3-3 and also offer us depth in a 4-2-3-1, and pretty much across the board. Especially since Griezmann can play CF as well.
And if we manage to get Rodrigo as well, then we practically have 2 top quality starters for each attacking (and MF) position.
Tbh, I never thought we could possibly reach this type of depth. What a summer!

Plays in the central triple pivot for Ajax to great effect, but has a lot of freedom. Don't want to force him out wide as Siggy was, but feel he'd be more adept at playing there if he had to.

I thought Hernanes and Paulinho play the same position and Paulinho has been keeping Hernanes out of the Brazil squad?

I think it's more of the system that Scolari plays that keeps Hernanes out. He's been getting Gustavo and Paulinho to sit deep and play anchormen whilst Oscar gets the free role in front to be creative. Although he can play deep, he's not an achorman so if anything it's Oscar that keeps him out.

Sandro will come in and perhaps push Paulinho further forward.
The fact Gustavo keeps Fernandinho out is a surprise. He moved for half the fee and to a far lesser club. Someone has been robbed, while someone has perhaps got a great deal.

It’s reported Hernanes will ask Lazio to be sold in January, as Arsenal, Tottenham and Atletico Madrid lie in wait.

The Brazilian midfielder’s contract expires in June 2015 and talks over a renewal have stalled repeatedly.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport this morning, Hernanes is prepared to demand a transfer in the January window.

Lazio would be willing to accept his departure, but only for bids of at least €25m (£21m).

For several weeks he has been linked with Premier League clubs Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, while Liga side Atletico Madrid have also joined the race.

The Gazzetta claims that of the teams vying for his signature, Atletico would be preferable for Hernanes and he is eager to join a Champions League club.

The Biancocelesti are prepared to release the midfielder now that they have signed Felipe Anderson for his role.

Despite us having a fair few options in the middle, would love us to sign Hernanes. Don't want to block youth players' paths though.
