Love a good two-footed player. We don't have enough of 'em!

According to Wiki he can be a CAM. Would solve our No. 10 problem. I don't think he can play on the wing though.

Hernanes can be used as a playmaker in the centre attacking midfield role. He is notable for his ambidexterity, as well as being neat and tidy in possession, with the ability to spray the ball out wide in order to stretch play.[1] He is also an accurate and powerful striker of the ball.[2]

Don't know anything else about him though.

Wouldn't leave Lazio I don't think.

But fuck would he be a good signing. Maybe not as quick and tricky as a Willian, Cazorla, Mata, but he works hard and is an excellent playmaker, dribbler, and shooter.

quality player but I highly doubt levy will be willing to spend big on another player close to his 30s. If we can get him on the cheap (15-18million) id bite their hands off. Good goalscoring record from midfield and I've seen him score important goals at important times for lazio. Definitely a big game player!

Report in Italy saying a deal may be possible as Lazio are having difficulty getting Hernanes to renew his contract:

Football Lazio Hernanes at the crossroads: between renewal and Tottenham

The discourse on the extension remains on the high seas: the Brazilian is an old ball of Villas-Boas. The time seems ripe

ROME - Hernanes is the jewel of Lazio. Little doubt, it is more than Klose because of the identity card. And the biancocelesti risk of losing it because the negotiations for the extension of the contract of the Brazilian has stalled for some time. We're doing a little thought that Tottenham has the overflowing coffers of pounds after the passage of Bale to Real Madrid. Villas-Boas appreciate it and would like to train in London. It is no secret that Hernanes is considered to be the ball of the Portuguese coach.

Paulinho (aged 25, 18 Brazil caps), Sandro (aged 24, 17 Brazil caps), Hernanes (aged 28, 17 Brazil caps), Dembele (aged 26, 49 Belgium caps), Capoue (aged 25, 7 France caps), Holtby (aged 22, Germany U21 Captain, 3 Germany caps) and Carroll (aged 21, 2 England U21 caps) as our midfield?

I am not so thrilled with Hernanes.... esp his fee is reported to be EUR 25M but if AVB rates him, go get him.

Seen Hernanes a few times for Lazio and really rate him. Good balance in his attributes, a physical playmaker, which is fairly rare. Still see us going in for Eriksen, and I don't see Hernanes as an alternative or back up.

Tottenham Looking To Land Lazio Midfielder

English Premier League side Tottenham Hostpur are reportedly in contact with Lazio over a move for Brazilian midfielder Hernanes.
Spurs have already spent heavily in the transfer market this summer, bringing in six new players and breaking their transfer record three times by first purchasing Paulinho from Corinthians for €19 million, then Spanish international Roberto Soldado for €30m and, finally, Erik Lamela from Roma for around €35m.
With the departure of Welsh forward Gareth Bale to Real Madrid for a world-record fee seemingly imminent, the Daily Star now reports that the Europa League side are intent on continuing their big spending with a move for the 28-year-old Lazio midfielder.
While it is believed the Biancocelesti would prefer the midfielder to stay, a new contract has not been agreed upon between the club and player and, as such, the Brazilian could be sold before the transfer window shuts on September 2.
Hernanes has earned himself a reputation as a goalscoring attacking midfielder over the course of his three seasons with Lazio, scoring 31 goals in 102 Serie A appearances.

If the Eriksen deal is real then this makes no sense to me at all. Talented player but we'd have no room for him.

I was just about to edit my OP, but had to step away for a sec.
Yes, that's my point. Why would we need another playmaking mid?
Unless that's recycled data from a few days ago.

PS. And the article is dated tomorrow 08/30 (obviously because of the time difference)
I am here in Seattle 8 hours behind GMT.

We could if we loaned out Carroll. Personally I think we're looking to do:

Sandro (Capoue)
Paulinho (Dembele) Hernanes (Holtby)
Lamela (Townsend)-------------------------------------Eriksen (Chadli)
Soldado (New CF/Defoe)
If we got Hernanes or another CM then IMO Sig and Lennon will leave and Carroll would be loaned out. That'd leave 2 players in every position.
