Tottenham line up £20m-rated England U21 star transfer as managerless Spurs move on quickly from Ange Postecoglou

One European giant has already had a bid rejected

ENGLAND UNDER-21 star Hayden Hackney is on managerless Tottenham’s transfer radar.

The Middlesbrough midfielder, 22, looks set to leave his boyhood club after their failure to win Championship promotion.

The £20m-rated ace has already proven he can cut it against the big boys of the Premier League with stand-out cup displays against both Chelsea and Aston Villa last season.

Now he hopes to catch the eye at this month’s U21 European Championship in Slovakia.

A host of clubs have been monitoring Hackney for several months, including Portuguese giants Porto who had a measly £9m bid rejected in January.

German side Stuttgart are also keen as are Crystal Palace, but Sun Sport understands that Spurs’ scouts have also been running the rule over Hackney.

Tottenham talent spotters will also be out in Slovakia to watch the action closely and, if Hackney shines for Lee Carsley’s side, they could give the green light for the club move despite not yet appointing a replacement for axed Ange Postecoglou.

Middlesbrough are in no rush to sell their home-grown star and could even squeeze a couple more million onto his price tag depending on how he performs at the Euros.

should we sign him? we already have a lot of young midfielders, but if we don't sign him he may become another Wharton who we will never afford to buy

Would be a very sensible signing. Could see him going to Palace or Brentford and doubling in value within a season.

Plays as a deep lying playmaker which is what we need.

£20m or less seems reasonable for where he is and potential. At worst we'll make a small loss. At best we'll have a top future player.

This is one of those Championship buys that we will be kicking ourselves over if we don’t buy him, wanted him last summer personally.

He’s is very good in progressing the ball in the carry or with a pass. I would say he’s very similar to Connor Gallagher.

He looks absolute class. Would slot in and be top class in amongst other top players in my opinion.

Every championship player were linked with it now scares me they're going to be the next Wharton, Eze or Watkins.

Not for me.
He is reasonably good but not as good as/better than we already have.
Ive said to members of my family (Boro fans) that he is the type of player West Ham sign.

Boro fans would be over the moon to get a decent price

I live in Middlesbrough, and have yet to meet anyone who wouldnt sell him.
Thats not a great sign.
We can't argue we need better players and then accept players that aren't of a good level, that level that improves us.
He is half decent.

Hull fans would not have been happy to take the money for Bowen

I think this would be a pretty smart signing. If we don't go for him now, he may end up top of everyone's wishlists, but out of our price range, in three years' time.

Fits the profile of what we need, wouldn’t be a bad shout tbh. I hope we act quick though.

We’ll wait for a smaller club to show interest, agree on principle then swoop in. Spurs never negotiate with english teams.
