I miss it every day - it was my escapism twice a week.

I don't get out much anyway and I like it that way but scraping the barrel for things to do and trying out dressing up in the missus' clothes and parading in front of the mirror doesn't have quite the same satisfaction as watching a perfectly lofted ball from Lo Celso.
What's the dislike for Herc?

The fact that I miss watching football or the light-hearted comment?

There's greater things of concern at this moment. We all I'm sure have reflected on how important life health family jobs freedom truth good governance are... our leaders the banks manufacturing etc are shambolic.

Once we overcome covid-19 so much has to change, certain professions industries social planning we need to seriously rethink better pay better respect better structures the list goes on.

Have I missed football... NO.

I think the majority of us had become pretty disillusioned with the slow decline of the
Team over the last 2 seasons, largely offset and somewhat disguised by the unlikely run to the CL final. Realistically though it was obvious that the enjoyable Poch era was coming to an end and with it our cycle of relative success ( for us) .
With the awful football on offer in the last few months, possibly somewhat excused by injuries, I think we all felt some relief when it was all suspended. Understandably, most of us are not missing it and probably dread it coming back and continuing the same way.
I think anyone expecting any kind of transfer spending, unless funded by sale of players is sadly misguided, so is JM the one to galvanize the team whenever it does re-start. Personally, I doubt it but the answer will be found within the squad. I would love to know what they are saying amongst themselves.
Whatever happens though, I don't think people will get as bothered by it all in future and it will be seen as really just a game at the end of the day.

We had two great and enjoyable seasons back to back in 15/16 and 16/17 interspersed with some great CL results (3-1 Madrid, Ajax etc). but the last 18 months prior to Poch's sacking demonstrated we'd reached a peak.

Even when we were supposedly "in the hunt" for the league, that was as much a construction of the media as it was the reality. We were 10 points behind Chelsea at xmas, and finished 7 behind.

The reason i say that is because it's become blindingly obvious that as long as Levy is in charge we will not win major honours. I'm grateful we aren't breaking the club's back with silly spending - but we aren't mentioned in the same breathe as the big boys, and rarely snaffle top class talent (GLC has had a few good games, Ndombele could be great or a stinker). Aside from a lucky CL run, have only appeared in three major domestic finals in twenty years - and that was only the league cup.

There is no culture of expectation of winning at the club - no pressure or desire from leadership to do that. Not by words or deeds. And when that's the case, everything else become's a little stale.

I do miss football - i love the sport. But my apathy this year was something i never felt even during the dark days of Gross, Francis and the dreadful 90s. At least Newcastle made it to a cup final and actually led the league. We've not even done that in the last 30 years. As a result it's hard to maintain excitement

Not at all sadly, am even considering not renewing the ST when it eventually comes around and going to my local team instead - and Stevenage are proper shite so it must be bad!

Initially, yes, but that was more due to the change in routine. Saturdays from about 5pm through to 2-3am on Sunday is almost non-stop football and I was enjoying the Goal Rush channel more than any full match.

This season has been chaotic - the application of VAR and the new controversies were almost as draining as the problems it aimed to fix, and often sucked the life out of the game I was watching, and then the Spurs fiasco which began last season but was just getting worse.

I am happy to have a break from it all, but can't wait for it to return either. More as a symbol of a return to normality, really. Hopefully the break will benefit Spurs, whether it is to finish off this season strongly or start the new season with renewed focus and key players injury-free.

Not sure how likely any of that is - the virus and risk will be around for a while. Matches in empty stadiums does not appeal to me (having seen WWE/AEW put on shows with no crowd for a while now) and the initial enthusiasm around having football back will probably dissipate quickly. At least with 9-10 games to go, it might be over quickly anyway. That said, I expect them to void the season, have a long break and then come back when they can. Looks as if the Bundesliga return will be the test of whether it is feasible to restart.

Also, I find the daily transfer gossip at this time to be distasteful. Every day there are media outlets reporting possible deals for players - and I get that the players have futures outside of the next few months - but the idea of doing deals when there is no football, no return date, and the notion that everything will just restart as before seems delusional to say the least.

Not missed it one bit and would gladly never see it return. Social media and money has ruined what should be a great sport.

Obviously the answer is to come of social media and watch football like before. Difficult to do but I bet it would make the football experience better. That and ditching VAR!

yes that’s easier than it may appear for me as I don’t have Facebook or twitter but what I mean by social media ruining it is that all the nonsense that is posted on there is lapped up by everyone else and then spread about by idiots. All the “hilarious” memes, pictures and jokes are one thing but then all the bull shit news stories, transfer rumours and latest next big thing is quite another. I find that It’s almost impossible to have a football related conversation with anyone regarding spurs without the line “what have you won” or “you need to win something soon or all your players will leave” being thrown in within the first two minutes. That’s a narrative that has been spun by so called expert pundits which for most people automatically make their opinion more valid than yours when infact half of them are only there as it’s a sky TV job for the boys gig. I hate everything about modern football, the players, the managers, the new match day modern fan where they are more intent on catching the game on their phones rather than actually watching it for no other reason than to post it on their social media. The game has eaten itself and I really hope that when it comes back that it will have changed for the better although I won’t hold my breath on that.

oh and don’t even get me started on the shit show that is VAR.

Its telling how many people, once top flight football and all its excesses are taken away, are finding themselves happier without it.

To fall back in love with football, we should all make a concerted effort to try and visit matches at our local lower league teams after all this.

Yeah I knew what you meant, I’m in agreement. Add to that, that nowadays, there are people who think that is supporting your club and it appears what goes on during the game is far down the list.
I worry about how long that will take to infiltrate the match going fan and them being on it instead of watching the game. I must admit that this season I have posted on SC during games but that’s when I’ve been at matches on my own and wanted to have a moan and have used to match thread for that purpose.

Really don’t get why I’m not missing it. Normally by mid July I’m absolutely desperate for the first friendly. I absolutely adore the stadium and going there so I’m kind of baffled my only conclusion it’s a combination of all this:

-it’s hard to think about football when you know going to a match may put your life in peril or someone close to you.
- 100s are dying a die and who knows when it will all end
- Football hasn’t exactly covered itself in glory and been shown up for being very greedy and narcissistic.
- The constant how can we finish the season when literally every other sport has just cancelled.
- in my heart of hearts I don’t really believe jose is the right man

I think that covers it lol.

I think there are a lot of possible silver linings that come out of the crisis as a whole, and a better evaluation of things like football will hopefully be one of them. I would say there are a lot of people who take their favourite sports far too seriously and allow them to have a detrimental impact on their lives. Hopefully this enforced step back will allow us all to approach the game as just that... a game.

I've been staying more distant from football this entire season (thankfully!) because the negativity on sites like this and in general comment feeds and social media outlets simply isn't worth being exposed to. Expectations are ridiculous, everybody has an opinion, and of course that opinion is 100% correct and if you disagree you are "naive" or a "moron". It's a depressing way for adults to lead their lives (in my fallable opinion) and my real hope is that when the game starts up again we can collectively get less wound up about it.

I need a replacement for Fantasy Football. I'm up for Fantasy NHS instead. Five doctors & five nurses per team. Three points for minor issues, five for fixing a broken bone, ten for saving a life, etc.

I can't wait for it to come back as it will give us all something to focus on every week - I had pretty much given up on this season anyway so can't say I was annoyed that the league stopped when it did but I do miss it.

I surprisingly haven't missed it much at all. If they played televised 'behind closed doors' games next month to finish the season I probably would not watch.

Let's be honest a couple of things I have enjoyed is the worry of the Liverpool fans thinking they might not win the league. Like Sky Liverpool would even allow that to happen...They would lose over 80 per cent of their punditry staff.

I haven't missed Spurs being utter shite and Sky Sports having to acknowledge that other football does exist rather then just the Premier League.

I have actually enjoyed watching the match of the day shows...sitting down with my 10 year old and watching World Cups from the past and last night showing him the United match which a long with the City midweek match cemented the term Spursy in the football vocabulary.

Agree but don’t quite understand what Jose has got to do with it...
